Nicolas Normand only started to photograph bees in my garden and urban landscapes less than two years ago. Soon he back taking pictures of people for modeling portfolios. I tried to develop my own vision of photography, doing original things. I don’t have a “style”… I work on ideas which look nice to photograph. I learn by myself how to photograph, trying to improve each time. I can easily work on a cute project or on a dark and shocking one. Often, I like to tell a short story in my pics. I love to work colors too. We can tell a lot of things with colors!
I can say that I get inspiration from everyday life. Sometimes, ideas come from an object, a place or a discussion. Often, my best ideas come from dreams! When I’m sleeping or when I’m relaxed on my bed, I can find many things. When I’ve got an idea, I write it on a piece of paper and I make a quick drawing to remember it. Later I can work on the idea, to develop it and look for other elements. I never photograph without preparation. All my pics are thought and worked before the session.
I love the photo sessions of course, but in all my photo work, I think I prefer the relationship with people, and the evolution of my work. I started with bees, and in only 1 year, many different people asked me to take pics. Top models contacted me! It’s a crazy thing for a 19 years old photographer to be in demand from top models. I’ve got models requests every day in my mailbox, it’s just amazing!
Since April 2008, Nicolas has worked with a make-up artist for his sessions. He feels most happy when his models are having fun and he is enjoying the contacts he’s getting from all over the world. I just received a new camera recently, so my first plan is to try it out! At the moment, I’m working with clothes designers to make some adverts, it’s a new direction, and I hope it will be a great experience too. I just want to keep on photographing and meet new and interesting people to work with and have a lot of fun!
