I decided a few days ago that I wanted to see the inauguration of Barack Obama.  I booked a flight, left the 85 degree January temperatures of Southern California and arrived in Washington.

I am an African American male.

This inauguration is history that I needed to see.

I hear the statistics that there are more black men in prison than in college.  I hear murder rates. I hear crime stories.  None of those fit my life.  They do not resemble the life of our new President.

I went to law school in Washington DC.  My friends worked at the Supreme Court, have advanced degrees and contribute to national and world policy.  I wanted to watch the world witness this facet of African American men.  To see that we can achieve – -to see that we are not just athletes and entertainers, but intellectuals, leaders and role models.

I have attended an inauguration before.  I had special ticket, even went to an official ball with many notable politicians and celebrities.  This time I wanted to be in the streets.  Feel the energy, hope and excitement of the people.

I’ll keep you updated with photos and even some video of my experience among the millions arriving from around the world.

For now, its time to get some rest, as I have to be up at 5am (to get a good spot).  Stay tuned, write in to let me know what you want to know about and what intrigues you.
