More Than Social | February 16, 2009

A few months ago I received an e-mail through work from a friend I had not seen since high school. She told me that she was trying to rally everyone in our class to get on Facebook so we could all be in touch and have great attendance at our next reunion.

My first thought was, “No way.” First of all, I said to myself, it seems highly narcissistic, and beyond that, geared for participants in their teens and twenties, not ones in their, ahem, forties. But she was persistent, and finally I “gave in,” vowing not to ever communicate with … Read More »

Forgotten Puddings | February 16, 2009

Most people you talk to have not had either bread pudding or rice pudding lately.  This is a crying shame because these desserts are some of the best! Bread pudding sounds kind of dry, but it is not.  It is buttery and creamy  and warm. It is just the perfect comfort food. Bread pudding is traditionally  from our southern states, but the British, also, have their version.

I love bread pudding with raisins and a warm sauce poured over.  You can vary what you add to your bread  pudding; from cinnamon, to caramel, to even chocolate! This is pretty fancy coming from … Read More »

Looking Ahead To Fall 2009 & Back To The 80s | February 14, 2009

This past November I attended a fall 2009 fashion preview co-sponsored by Boston Fashion Week and Fashion Group International.  When the final frame of the Spring/Summer 2009 screening faded out, the room was quite.  “Really?” hung, unspoken in the air.  80′s inspired trends ran rampant on the runways.  The critique that followed by Boston fashion notables as well as representatives from WWD and Lucky Magazine confirmed what many of us in the room seemed uneasy to believe: 80s fashion trends provided notable inspiration to Fall 2009 collections.  With that, however, was the added notion that anything goes; wear what … Read More »

Use Your Mind to Create Your Best Reality | February 13, 2009

Have you heard of affirmations?  From the Latin word affirmare, affirmation means to assert.  It is also a term to describe a form of autosuggestion used to produce desired results in various areas of our lives.

The link between our thoughts and our reality is stronger than you may know or even realize.   The thoughts and feelings going on inside you are what manifest in your life.   Our subconscious mind is very powerful.  It is working hard all the time to make the thoughts and desires we have come to fruition, so it is important that the thoughts we have are … Read More »

Your New Favorite Jean: A $40 Steal | February 13, 2009

I love leggings! But my jeans are very important to me.

And my experience thus far, regarding myself as well as my personal shopping clients, is that it’s not as simple as grabbing your size and making sure they zip up. That is like blindly purchasing a pair of heels and just making sure they fit.

So when it comes to the brand new Alias Premium Denim line for women, I am completely enamored by its attractive details. The dark shade, the boot cut, the low waist, and the…cost! If you are used to purchasing jeans for $100 or more, you might … Read More »

Talk about a shop-a-holic! Christine Van Buskirk, founder and co-owner of Girl Shop Spot,  would buy, order, and schedule anything and everything from a dedicated small business owner if she could. “I can’t help but enjoy supporting the small business owner and seeing people become successful. I do get broke at times doing this, so I thought there must be another way to help, along with my shopping habits. I thought, if I could help these small business owners connect with one another to improve networking and sales, while providing a great way to market their business online to customers, … Read More »

Vacation Helped Toss Toxic Relationships | February 12, 2009

What I love about vacation is the return.  The feeling of rest.  How problems at home are not as big, and seen with a new perspective.  What I love best is the re-set of priorities.

I just got back a week in Mexico.  A glorious week.  Sunshine, surf, and amazing food.
I think a lot when I’m on vacation.  There is something about being away from your normal environment where you can re-evaluate things.

I was re-evaluating friendships.

I’m really sociable.  I know a lot of people. Famous and not so famous. I enjoy hanging out and spending time with my friends.  Lately, though, … Read More »

Reflections on Life & Living | February 11, 2009

Life is about choices and commitment… It is a great gift…
To be able to give to others…
To help make the world a better place…

Be gentle with yourself in this Life…
Know that you also need to be able to ask for and receive help…

But live your Life passionately…
Keeping your center and balance…

Have faith that through living in and by… trust and love…
Happiness will come out of all circumstances…
This requires willingness and openness…
On your part to see all the possibilities of Life…

The most important thing in Life is…
Human warmth and affection…

How simple… how wise… how human…
Can we be a little kinder… … Read More »

Ever since Elena Brennan was a little girl, she always had a passion for shoes. It just made sense that she would open a shoe boutique. She was born in London and now lives in Philadelphia. BUS STOP Boutique will be two years old in April, 2009 and is located on historic Fabric Row/4th Street, Queen Village in downtown Philly.

“Whenever I travel I am always inspired by designs and products that I find on my travels, especially shoes. Most of the shoe designers that I carry are from Europe and South America. I try to look for shoes that women … Read More »
