Moxie Shoes, owned by Susan Dittrich, is a new concept in shoe and accessory shopping. “We specialize in personal fittings and private parties. Come to our store or we will come to you with a variety of fabulous shoes, handbags and jewelry selected with you in mind,” says Susan.

“I was having lunch with a girlfriend and we were talking about what we wanted to do with our lives, and I mentioned that I always wanted to open a shoe store, but I did not know how to get started.  She looked at me and said, “Just buy a book about opening a new business.”  It was as if I had been stuck by lightning: Could it be that easy?  The answer is yes and no.”  

“Almost one year later, Moxie Shoes is a growing and thriving shoe and accessory store.  I have made a lot of mistakes and learned more lessons than I can count, and I am sure there are many more of both to come.  I have learned that women love the look of high heels, but not necessarily wearing them on a daily basis.  There are also are women who are all about the look and pain is a small price to pay for fashion.  Trying to find a balance between comfort and fashion is a constant objective when shopping at market.  Designers are just starting to see the need for comfortable and beautiful shoes.  Taryn Rose, an orthopedic surgeon and shoe designer, was one of the first to make the move towards comfort without compromising style.  However, her price point is still a little too high for the average shopper.”  

“There was a time when women would buy a pair of turquoise stilettos, and then find clothes to coordinate with the shoes.  With this economy, women are more practical about color, style and price.  We carry a variety of shoes at different price points so that every shopper has the opportunity to find something fabulous that she can afford.  We also have some spectacular shoes from Bettye Muller, Nanette Lepore and Betsey Johnson with an equally spectacular price for the woman who knows what she wants and price does not matter.”  

“My favorite thing about this business is finding the perfect shoe that makes someone feel beautiful.  The right shoe can take a basic black dress and turn it into a spectacular outfit.  When you get it right, you can see it on her face.  I love when someone leaves and she is already thinking about what she’s going to wear with the new shoes or handbag.  Occasionally, they leave with the new shoes on their feet and the old ones in the trash.”  

“We have parties with groups that range in size from five to 50.  The dynamics of women and shoe shopping makes for a very fun evening.  The girlfriends try on shoes and do the runway walk.  If you have made a poor selection, your girlfriends will let you know it.  They also encourage each other to try something a little out of the comfort zone, which is always fun to watch.”  

“We recently added shoes up to size 11 for our fall collection.  We listen to what women want and take this information into consideration when we go to market.  We only purchase one style of each handbag and one of each size in every shoe style.  There is no need to worry about seeing your handbag or shoes on three of your girlfriends.  Moxie Shoes is always evolving to meet the needs of its clientele.”
