Vicki Stern-Brown’s Atlanta-based promom couture dresses mothers in stylish, celebratory tee-shirts.
“The reason that I started promom was to deliver a message,” she explains. “I felt so passionately that the ‘mommy wars’ were absurd! I wanted moms to feel comfortable to define motherhood however they saw fit. It does not matter if a mother is a doctor, mechanic, engineer, PTA president, school crossing guard, CEO, or carpool mom. Whether a mom works inside or outside the home, for pay or not for pay, what matters is that we celebrate each and every mother.”
“I am actually a recovering attorney. I hadn’t given that up for promom; I had stopped working as an attorney before that and had taken on a number of volunteer professions when the children were younger. My promom couture dream was born out of having been a working mom and a stay-at-home mom–although I hate those terms since every mother is a working professional.”
“I love the peaceandloveforevermom tee because it seems to have universal appeal. I’ve had women purchase it who are not moms because they love the design, the message, and their moms.”
“When we see a celebrity donning our line, we always shake our heads in amazement!” says Vicki. “When Cindy Crawford appeared on Oprah a few years back showing a stack of our tees as some of her faves, that was pretty amazing. When we received a personal note from First Lady Michelle Obama about her tees, I thought that I would faint right then! I showed that note to everyone I came into contact with that day! I’m also amazed when I’m at the airport or in another city and see our tees on moms. It means that our message is resonating across the country and that is my goal.”
“My favorite promom story is that a new mom watching that Oprah episode loved the line, ordered tees, and fast-forward to 2009…she is now my business partner! Is that cool or what?”
