Designing for a cause, reality TV star Jack Mackenroth, a leading contestant of season four of Project Runway, has signed on to design and dress a teddy bear in the likeness of Grammy Award-winning pop superstar Christina Aguilera for The Matthew Shepard Foundation’s upcoming annual fundraiser.
Scheduled for Oct. 17, “Bear to Make a Difference” has become the largest annual fundraiser for the organization and has turned into a national event featuring celebrity teddy bears from all avenues of entertainment. Last year’s event raised over $100,000.
“I’m happy to be a part of this amazing project, which will help bring more awareness to hate crimes that are committed against LGBT individuals in this country,” says Mackenroth, who recently finished shooting a new TV pilot with co-star Kevin Christiana. “We still don’t have equal protection under the law, but the Matthew Shepard Foundation is continuing to help change that.”
The Matthew Shepard Foundation was founded by Dennis and Judy Shepard in memory of their 21-year-old son, Matthew, who in 1998 was tortured and murdered in his home state of Wyoming because he was gay.
