I watched the recent Oprah show, entitled “The Science of Beauty”. I couldn’t believe what I saw. Dr. Oz was helping a woman who suffered from adult acne. One thing that I totally agreed with was when Dr. Oz said, “you are bringing all of this on yourself by what you are putting on your face!!!!!” Read on to see what he meant:
Crystal, who suffers from Adult acne was pulled out of the audience. Here is what her regime was: She used a body loofah and antibacterial hand soap to scrub off her makeup (my jaw literally dropped open when she showed Oprah this). She literally took a loofah that was made for the body and scrubbed off her makeup…with HAND SOAP!!!!!
Next, she applied a “moisturizer” to combat dryness. The “moisturizer” she used was Pond’s Cold Cream. The first ingredient in this product is Mineral Oil, which is the worst ingredient for acne. Not to mention that Pond’s is NOT a moisturizer, but a cream to remove makeup. People with acne should never use products like this.
Next, she applied an antibiotic ointment to the blemishes. (She said she had never been to a dermatologist, so I wonder where she got the ointment?!?!?) Generally, the ointment should be put on UNDER a moisturizer, not on top….and it does nothing to dry out acne, like benzoil peroxide does…
After that, she said she applies a bleaching cream (I don’t even want to know what it is…probably Clorox!) once a week to bleach out the damage she had done.
If you are in the same situation as this woman, empower yourself. Don’t just use whatever you think you should. It is going to create more acne… here are my tips for acne:
Christopher’s tips for acne:
1. The best way to explain acne is this: if you are acne prone, you are allergic to certain ingredients in cosmetics. You need to be very aware of all ingredients you are putting on your skin…
2. Our skin needs to be balanced. If you are constantly drying out, hydrating, bleaching, drying out, then zapping, your skin, there is no balance. You need to find a few products that are effective against acne, and use them consistently over a long period of time.
***I highly recommend MD Formulations. It is an amazing line for Acne. I am not crazy about Proactiv. It really dries out the skin. MD Formulations was created by doctors, and many estheticians use it. It’s amazing.
Key ingredients to look for: salicylic acid and glycolic acid. They are amazing at fighting and preventing acne.
3. READ YOUR INGREDIENTS. Be sure that everything you put on your face is ‘non-comedogenic’, ‘oil free’, and ‘will not clog pores’.
4. Use only makeup that is created for acne prone skin. www.christopherdrummond.com was created to not clog the pores, and not cause acne. It actually helps to clear it up!!! DO NOT USE MAC IF YOU HAVE BREAKOUTS!!!!!
5. Watch my videos on acne. There are three parts..be sure to watch them all!!!
Finally, just remember, you suffer from an allergy. I firmly believe that this is what acne is. Your skin cannot handle certain products and ingredients, so you must avoid them at all costs! You must be diligent, do your homework, and go on the internet. www.acne.org is a great site to see what works and what doesn’t. In most cases, you will have to avoid buying products that a lot of people with “normal” skin can use..That’s just how it is when you have acne!!!!! This doesn’t mean you can use great products and makeup, you just need to be very very careful about what you put on your face!!!
