cherry1 300x219 Cherry Berry Replenish SmoothieI had a request today from a friend on facebook to create a smoothie with Michigan cherries. This is the perfect time for such a healthy drink because of the abundance of cherries at the supermarket! Cherries are not only good for you but they are also known as a superfruit! It has been shown that cherries have very high levels of disease-fighting antioxidants, when compared to other fruits. They also contain other important nutrients such as beta carotene (19 times more than blueberries or strawberries) vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, iron, fiber and folate.

My smoothie combines three ingredients that are packed with powerful antioxidants: cherries, strawberries, and ONO Geisha Green tea. The delicious flavor of cherry in this green tea gives an extra cherry kick to this smoothie without the added calories! In addition, the protein in the yogurt helps to build, repair and maintain almost all of the tissue in your body. This includes muscle. This was the perfect drink after my workout today.

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup plain yogurt

1 peeled ripe banana

10 pitted cherries

10 halved strawberries

1 tablespoon of honey

2 cups of brewed and chilled ONO Geisha Green tea

DIRECTIONS:

1.  Brew 4 tsp of ONO Geisha Green Tea with 2 cups of steaming water for 2 minutes, chill and set aside.

2. Place remaining ingredients in a blender, and set on high for 30 seconds.

3. Add the chilled ONO green tea to to achieve the desired smoothie consistency.

4. Pour into a glass and garnish with a mint.
