Picture 7Vintage Blue is an eco friendly vintage-inspired sportswear line sold online at www.vintage-blue.com.  The tees and totes have traditionally been sold to women, but after an overwhelming response from men interested in the line the company will be introducing styles for guys as well. Vintage Blue holds the exclusive license to the All American Girls Professional Baseball League featured in the film A League of their Own with Madonna and Tom Hanks.

Not only does Vintage Blue produce chemical-free garments, but it is a sustainable company in all aspects using eco-friendly materials when creating items like line sheets/catalogues, hang tags and more, and donates 5% of profits to kiva.org.

Vintage Blue began as a solo journey after years in the entertainment industry and involvement in the fashion world. Liza Goncalves spent 2000-2004 hosting television shows, shooting commercials, styling for movies and magazines, and finally creating a line of throwback jersey’s for women.  The line was product placed on celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, Alicia Keyes, and Jennifer Lopez.

This experience inspired her to start her own company, Vintage Blue. Having always been inspired by vintage items, Liza created a concept for a fashion line from the movie, A League of Their Own.  She fought for and acquired the license to The All American Girls Professional Baseball League, which gives Vintage Blue the exclusive rights to produce a line using their marks and logos.

Throughout Liza’s career she has been innovative, taken unexpected opportunities, and created some of her own.  These traits are similar to those of her current partner, Michelle D’Avella, and are some of the reasons why the pair meshed so well together.

16721-img_16721_covervblue_3Michelle D’Avella walked out of the doors of Temple University in 2006, BA in Advertising Art Direction in hand, and no intent of breaking into the fashion industry.

Michelle began her career doing freelance graphic design work for Philadelphia non-profits and small businesses.  At the same time she worked as a barista all day and dedicated her spare time to assisting her newfound friends, Liza and husband, Free, with their store, Denim Society and assisted Liza with graphic work for her clothing line, Vintage Blue.

Hard work and dedication always pay off; Michelle became a partner in Denim Society less than a year after her initial introduction.  Not long after that was she deemed a partner in Vintage Blue.  During that time she built her graphic design career and has worked on brand identities, web design, print materials, t-shirts and more for bakeries, energy drinks, fashion lines, and bands to name a few.

Liza currently serves as the owner, creative director, and the driving force behind Vintage Blue. Each design, pattern and outfit comes about as a result of her creative vision and stylistic input.

Michelle is the current art director for Vintage Blue. Michelle is the fuel that has created the company’s look and feel through a brand identity that is nostalgic of the 1940′s and 50′s while adding a contemporary flare.  She also collaborates with head designer, Liza Goncalves, in creating the line’s apparel for each season while also spearheading the graphics department.

Liza and Michelle’s philosophy is to create a timeless brand drawing inspiration from the past.  As a company they aim to leave as small a carbon footprint as possible while producing eco friendly clothing that is fashionable, comfortable, and affordable for women.  Visit http://www.vintage-blue.com.
