And Yet, You Still Chose Me (Eloquent Books) is a deeply emotional novel that follows Shelley, a young woman who struggles with seemingly insurmountable odds. Stepfamily Sanity this Holiday Season | December 17, 2009

Stepfamily Sanity this Holiday Season
By Wednesday Martin, Ph.D.,
Author of Stepmonster: A New Look at Why Real Stepmothers Think, Feel, and Act the Way We Do

When you think of holidays, you probably think of family.

And that’s what makes holidays so tough for stepfamilies. At this time of year, couples in a remarriage with children might be feeling . . . imperfect. For example, they might be polarized — he misses his kids, while she hopes they won’t treat her like the maid when they show up. She wants to buy her 25-year old’s plane ticket to come for a holiday visit — … Read More »

How to Use Glitter and Shimmer | December 16, 2009

Although it’s easy and quick to apply, even a tiny amount of glitter can pump up almost any makeup in an instant;  however you should isolate it to one feature—lids, lash line, lips, or cheekbones. Don’t use it all over, you will look like a Halloween costume gone bad.   A major issue with Glitter is that if someone decides to use it, they use it until the cows come home.  This will make you look like a disco ball.  However if you just want to add some “pop” to your holiday makeup, less is usually more with glitter.

Adios Carolina! Hola Madrid! | December 16, 2009

One of my very best friends just told me that she is moving to Madrid, Spain! While I am so sad that she is leaving us (Adios Carolina!), it actually will be the perfect excuse for me to jet set to this incredible Spanish city that I have been wanting to go to for awhile (Hola Madrid!). When most people think of Spain, they think of Barcelona and the beaches, but there has been a recent boom in Madrid, and there are now more hip hotels, trendy restaurants and stylish shops all waiting to be discovered!

On my Madrid … Read More »

Ask TC: Burn Extra Calories Without The Extra Work! | December 16, 2009

Amy: I don’t feel like I’m losing weight after my workout.

TC: What do you hydrate with after your workout?

Amy: Usually a sports drink.

TC: Well, that is the problem. A 16 oz sports drink has roughly 100 calories. It takes an average person at least 30 minutes on the treadmill to burn that off.

Amy: Wow. What do you recommend instead?

TC: ONO Antioxidant Junkie has no calories and studies show that a cup of tea can burn 17% more fat during a 30 minute workout. You should drink Antioxidant Junkie during your workout. After your workout, I recommend ONO Fountain of Youth. … Read More »

The Children will be Home Soon! | December 16, 2009

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but next week is the last week you have before the kids are out of school.  YIKES! I realize you have 100+ things left to do on your to-do list but maybe we could rearrange some items to take advantage of children being at school.

Try to get as much done next week that is secretive such as; wrapping their Christmas presents, making sure Santa has gotten everything on their list, stocking stuffers and even if you have a return or two to make because you decided on something else for your … Read More »

EXTREME FASHION:How the High Heel Began | December 15, 2009

Ever wonder where the high heel came from?  Whether it is Lady Gaga or Suri Cruise, a high heel is a fashion statement, but what else does it say?  Designers like Christian Louboutin, Prada, Alexander McQueen are showing shoes that are higher and more extreme.  Centuries ago, women wore these heights and needed handlers to help them get around.  Perhaps they do now as well.

A new shoe exhibit, “On a Pedestal” explores the social history of elevating footwear and explains why shoes have been so inexorably connected to the construction of femininity and the gendered economics of fashion then and now.  It is … Read More »

Beer Batter Bread | December 15, 2009

I was sitting here watching football and realized that beer is really a nice partner with football given all the ads for beer shown during the breaks.  So I decided to make Beer Batter Bread. This is a yummy yeast bread that is moist,  flavorful and extra easy to make.

First you’ll want to grease and 8×4 inch loaf pan, sprinkle it with cornmeal, and set it aside.

In the bowl of your mixer,  combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast and mix to blend.

In small saucepan, combine beer, butter and honey and heat to very warm. I usually gauge the proper temperature … Read More »
