Saving Money on Fashion | January 29, 2010

Dressing well and feeling fashionable makes you feel great, so it can be very frustrating when you want the latest look and it’s not available in the stores on your high street.

One of the best ways of solving this problem is by shopping on the internet. The internet saves a lot of trouble when it comes to finding what you want as it doesn’t have the problem that stores face – not having enough room to put everything in the range. Online stores have the ability to display everything and offer every size option to their customers as … Read More »

Become a Thrift Store Expert | January 29, 2010

Everything old is new again – or can be if you’re interested in changing your shopping habits. Instead of spending more than you can afford on brand new items, check out local consignment and thrift stores to supplement your wardrobe. I began exploring resale shops around the Atlanta area about three years ago and became hooked on the bargains – and their prices.

I found a tweed jacket with faux fur trim around the cuffs and down the front for $5 at a store in Atlanta. And my favorite bargain of all time is a faux fur coat that looks like … Read More »

French Apple Custard Pie | January 29, 2010

So you know I’m not really a pie girl. Oh, I like to eat them all right, but making them? Not so much. Most of that I chalk up to my inability to make a pie crust. Using the frozen crust just seems like cheating to someone like me who makes everything from scratch. But honestly, I can’t even get the crust that you manually roll into the pie plate to look right so it’s the frozen crust for me.

I make pies for the holidays. Usually they are pecan, chocolate and pumpkin because those are the crowd pleasers.  Truthfully, if given the choice between … Read More »

How to Wear Animal Prints | January 28, 2010

We live a mile from the zoo. A favorite adventure for my daughter. A short car ride in the winter. A short walk in the summer. And at the end of the trek—tigers, zebras, leopards—oh my. It’s not a big zoo, so no lions. Sorry, Dorothy.

Also an adventure (one that could end in disaster) is trying to incorporate these fun prints into your wardrobe.

When it comes to wearing animal prints, the “less is more” concept is more important than ever. Here are a few easy tips for adding a pop into your outfit.

Don’t matchy match. The thought of snakeskin shoes … Read More »

Trip to Take: Zarafa in Botswana | January 28, 2010

On my list of places to jet set to is South Africa. I haven’t decided exactly what my itinerary would be yet, but I have heard and read a lot of great things about Botswana- particularly the Zarafa Camp- a luxury safari camp. The cost is not cheap. Plan to shell out about $1,400 per person, per night in high season (June through November). But just take a look at what the fabulous tents look like at the camp- they are luxurious, yet rustic. The furniture in the tents is made from recycled hardwoods, and is designed specifically … Read More »

Resolute Worrier Project Part I | January 28, 2010

As I write this, I’m not worried about anything. Well, that’s not absolutely true. I’m slightly worried about my mother’s upcoming doctor appointment. Along those lines, I’m concerned the health care bill will never pass. In addition, my nine-and-a-half year old cat has taken to meowing whenever my husband leaves the condo. I wonder why she has growing separation anxiety.

Moving right along…

I’m very fortunate that Dr. Elizabeth Lombardo, Ph.D., M.S., P.T psychologist, physical therapist, and author of “A Happy You: Your Ultimate Prescription for Happiness” has agreed to coach me through my worry project. As previously mentioned, I’m a forward … Read More »

7 Ways To Turn Your Home in A Nordic Beauty | January 27, 2010

If you think the Nordic region is design fashion forward with regards to cars, homes, clothes, and phones, you’re right. (Well I’m personally not a fan of Swedish fashion, but that’s just me) Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland ooze so much creativity it’s no wonder magical products come from here.

Here’s my list of seven home décor ideas to make your home more awesomely Nordic.

First, there are two types (I generalize a lot) of homes: sleek and modern, few decorations, sparse and simply colored; or, bucolic, country-esque homes with soft white woods, and floral décor. Pick a style … Read More »

How Strong Are Your Shoulders? | January 27, 2010

It’s a flashback to the 1980′s, powersuits with the reintroduction of strong shoulders. Although this seasons interpretation of strong shoulders is more sophisticated and dramatic ,it still conveys the message of strength and femininity.

The best way to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe is to choose a strong shouldered look in a neutral colour. Stick with black, white, gray or even beige, but don’t try to wear a strong shoulder with an even stronger colour like blue, red or green.

It is the perfect trend for a more formal event or a day at the office.  If … Read More »

Baggage Fees Flying High | January 26, 2010

Like many of you jet setters, I too was so upset when airlines starting imposing baggage surcharges a few years ago. Now, we have all had to either suck it up and pay, or just take our luggage on the plane with us. (Not easy for me to do as the major over-packer that I am!) Well now, to add insult to injury, Delta Airlines has just announced that it’s going to increase its baggage fees!!! Before, if you flew Delta and checked luggage, you had to pay $15 for your first bag and $25 for your second. Now, the … Read More »
