A new Mrs. Oklahoma International was crowned on March 6 at the Stillwater Community Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Beautiful and accomplished women from around the state competed for the title that would, at the end of the night, be awarded to Stephanie Anello, Mrs. Tulsa 2010.
The difference in the International pageant system is the community service platform focus. Each of the contestants participated in one on one interviews with the judging panel before the evening’s activities began. Each interview was based upon the contestant’s chosen platform. “The platform issue is important to who we are,” said Executive Director, Lauri Rottmayer. “Each lady finds an issue that they are passionate about and then works with it in their community.” By the time the contestants reach the State pageant, they have raised awareness, raised funds and effected change making their communities better places to live.
The evening of the pageant began as the ladies opened up with an upbeat number in front of a full house. The contestants were then able to give a 30 second platform presentation followed up by an onstage question directly related to their platform. This competition was followed by fitness wear and evening gown competitions.
When the results were tallied, Stephanie Anello was named Mrs. Oklahoma International 2010 and was crowned by her husband, Tim.
Stephanie will promote her platform K.I.S.S. (Kids Impact Simple Solutions) which focuses on working with children with diabetes and their friends, families, caregivers, and teachers to raise awareness on this growing problem in America. “I want people to know the signs and symptoms of diabetes and what we can do to better the lives of children who have the disease and the lives of those around them,” she says.
Three years ago, Stephanie’s goddaughter was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at the age of 4. Fueled with determination to raise funds for diabetes research with a goal of helping to end the disease, she held a golf tournament which has become an annual event. This year’s tournament will be held in April.
