Almost all women have some level of body dysmorphia. Recently Victoria Beckham was quoted as saying that she and Jennifer Lopez wore the same size. A recent study found that 95% of women overestimate the size of their hips by 16% and their waists by 25%, yet the same women were able to correctly estimate the width of a box. We look in the mirror and cannot see what is actually there.
In January, 2010 My Body Gallery launched a website to battle this problem. www.MyBodyGallery.com is a website that lets women search user uploaded pictures by height, weight, pant size, shirt size and body type. This allows women to more objectively see what their own bodies look like.
The response from all corners has been overwhelmingly positive. The Eating Disorder community hails it as “a powerful healing tool”. The Pro-Body community says “MyBodyGallery.com is spreading the truth” and users of the website have said “I just wanted to give kudos to you for this website. I have long thought to myself that SOMEONE needs to give women a utility to SEE what they look like.” and “I feel far more comfortable about myself now that I have taken a look at some women that are near my size on your website. ‘Hey, that’s not so bad!’. Now I can stop bothering my husband and just learn to appreciate what I have.”
In a world saturated with photoshopped images of size zero women there is finally a way for women to see themselves!

I think this is a great idea! I agree with you about all the images out there that are photoshopped and women feel terrible that they aren’t skin & bones. It shouldn’t be that way. Women are suppose to have hips and be curvy. And I think this website is a great idea for women to be able to see other women as they are. Great article!

I will definitely check this out. I always wonder if I am mistaken about my size.
