Decadent Indulgence | April 26, 2010

While I am a lover of fashion, I also adore and relish in other things luxurious – as life and fashion intermingle on so many levels.

Toronto may be no Paris or New York, but certainly has it’s own unique qualities that most will find alluring none the less. It’s restaurants are certainly no exception.

While I am all for having a casual afternoon/evening out, I must admit, I much prefer quaint little places that go over and above the call of duty – in both food, elegance, and style. This is why I must discuss a place I fancy far above … Read More »

The Go-To Mom Encourages Moms To Fake it | April 23, 2010

– But Not in the Bedroom.

Avoid Obsessing Over Post-Baby Body Image: Fake it.  Act Like You Have all the Confidence of a Super Model.

Don’t we really have two choices here? Either accept your beautifully aging body or change the parts that you can.  Obsessing and focusing on the negatives can put you into a never-ending spiral of body hatred or body pity.  I commonly hear, “Oh gross, I hate my saggy boobs and tummy,” or “my mid-section is way too large. I used to have a twenty-seven-inch waist, what has happened!”

Along with birthing our precious bundle of joys, age … Read More »

Quick, Healthy, Springtime Dishes — Featuring Herbs! | April 23, 2010

By Lidia Matticchio Bastianich,
Author of Lidia Cooks from the Heart of Italy: A Feast of 175 Regional Recipes

The use of fresh herbs has exploded in the American kitchen today. I recall that as a young apprentice in Italy — at my great-aunt’s apron strings — for every herb we had in the garden, there seemed to be a pot on the stove to match.

Some herbs were better to cook with while others were better added at the end to a finished dish. For example, rosemary, bay leaves and thyme are mostly used for long cooking where their oils … Read More »

Shopping The Marina | April 23, 2010

Ahhh, The Marina! Home to beautiful, young and fit 20-30-somethings, and also the spot to head to in San Francisco for excellent restaurants and shopping. The main areas to visit for both are Union Street and Chestnut Street. So for this Fashion Friday post, I want to fill you in on some of the best shops and boutiques to check out in this area.

Y & I Clothing Boutique: Lots of cute dresses, tops and jeans to choose from! The prices here are also pretty reasonable, which doesn’t seem to be the case for the other boutiques in this neighborhood.

The Life of a Singleton – Feminism is Overrated | April 22, 2010

There comes a time in every single girl’s life when she realizes that sometimes she just really, really needs a man. Sure, the winters might be long and the nights may get lonely but I can tolerate that. But tonight… tonight I was reminded of all the reasons I wish I wasn’t alone when the cat brought a mouse into the house. People… the cat brought a MOUSE into the HOUSE. And as cute as that phrase may sound, due to the fact it rhymes (and, really, who doesn’t enjoy a good rhyme?), I assure you … Read More »

Book Review – Deceptively Delicious | April 22, 2010

Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food by Jessica Seinfeld

In January of this year, I made a rather grandiose New Year’s resolution, public knowledge. Here, on this very site, I stated that my goal was to take my sorry self from “domestic disaster” in the kitchen to, at the very least, “competent-enough-not-to-be-shamed-at-school-bake-sales.” First lesson learned? Never, ever make New Year’s resolutions in public. Second lesson? My child couldn’t care less whether I ever make anything other than spaghetti and meatballs. Who was I trying to impress anyway?

Despite the fact that I had to shame … Read More »

Easy Tips for a Great Smoky Eye | April 22, 2010

Dramatic doesn’t always have to mean dark– blow the smoke away and opt for a shimmery champagne or platinum color  to be worn on the eyelids only. Or, line the top and bottom of the eyes with a black or deep brown pencil– work very close to the lash line and fill in the space in between the lashes– then slightly blend the edge. Go over the pencil with a matching eyeshadow to keep it in place– finish with several sweeps of black mascara. This look will really define the eyes while keeping them looking bright and open. You can also … Read More »

Most people by now know that I have a huge obsession with statement jewellery. It’s pretty serious. I can never seem to get enough of it. I find statement pieces to be endlessly versatile in that they instantly dress an outfit up or down – giving you attitude and/or elegance.

100 Years of Customer Service | April 21, 2010

Recently Miss Jackson’s in Tulsa, OK, celebrated their 100th anniversary! 100 years in business! Think about that….that is a LONG time! How many businesses do you know, specifically a specialty retail store, that has been in business for 100 years? THAT is very impressive!

The original “Miss Jackson” was Nelle Shields Jackson. She was the founder of the specialty retail store that still exists today in Utica Square. According to the Tulsa World article, it simply states that “she wanted to make people’s lives more beautiful and enjoyable”. What a simple concept!

Nelle took that concept and then took it one step … Read More »

Getting To Know Noe | April 21, 2010

Noe Valley (pronounced No-EE Valley) is a neighborhood in the central part of San Francisco. It’s often referred to as “Stroller Valley” mainly because it’s a very family-friendly area, and because you often see a lot of mommies walking around pushing strollers. But, don’t let this scare you off from visiting if this is not your style. Noe has a lot more to offer! On my recent trip to SF, my good friend Louisa showed me the best of Noe, and I realized that the more I got to know about Noe, the more I wanted to see. The heart … Read More »
