Don’t Be Ashamed of Your Faults | April 21, 2010

If we can’t be honest with our self who can we be honest with? The mind can be good at justifying our wrong actions and behavior. But, clever self-justification is of no benefit in the long run. If we can be aware of our own pride, jealousy, insecurities then we have a chance to let go of them. But, if we always justify our wrong attitudes to our self then we are lost.

To establish true self esteem we must concentrate on our successes and forget about the failures and the negatives in our lives.

Why Positive Thinking is Bad for You | April 20, 2010

By Srikumar Rao,
Author of Happiness at Work: Be Resilient, Motivated, and Successful — No Matter What

Positive thinking is so firmly enshrined in our culture that knocking it is a little like attacking motherhood or apple pie. Many persons swear by positive thinking and quite a few have been helped by it. Nevertheless, it is not a very effective tool and can be downright harmful in some cases. There are much better ways to get the benefits that positive thinking allegedly provides.

Perhaps the statement that best exemplifies positive thinking is “When life hands you a lemon, make lemonade.” It … Read More »

Let the Sun Shine: Choosing the Right Sunglasses | April 20, 2010

My sunglasses. I wear them all the time. I also lose them all the time. My favorite loss: my Prada glasses at a wedding shower. The waitress had no idea what I was talking about. Sure you didn’t, honey.

I dread the hours I spend trying to find the perfect frame…again. But with these tips from stylist to the stars and spokeswoman for Solstice Sunglass Boutique Eden Wexler, I can head straight to the right shape. First off, Wexler suggests doing the smile test when trying on. If the glasses rise off … Read More »

Disney Movies from a New Perspective-Cinderella | April 19, 2010

As a child, Cinderella was my favorite Disney movie and you might be surprised to know why. It was the mice. Yep! I loved Gus. He was such a cute, fat, ole mouse. Of course the happily ever after was a nice touch, plus a gorgeous man at the end, but really it was Gus. I still get a smile on my face hearing his laugh.

So now that I am supposedly a grown up, what healthy messages can we get from Cinderella? I must admit that this is a hard one.

Happily ever after–nah. There … Read More »

Tree Chandeliers | April 19, 2010

Think outside the box lately? How about think outside and bring it inside. Branch and twig chandeliers are made from real tree branches and they make very cool chandeliers for inside the home.

Forget the fancy brass and get some tree branches, rope and a light socket to make your own one of a kind chandelier. These chandeliers look great in a group but just as good singled out alone over the dining table. It’s important to live green and it doesn’t get much greener than this. Recycled tree branches transformed into beautiful lighting for the home. Remember to go green!

DVD Giveaway: How to Design with Bob Martin | April 19, 2010

Bob Martin is the master mind behind How to Fashion Design DVD series.  I interviewed Bob to learn more about his passion for fashion and what led him to his career as a fashion designer.

What are the pros and cons to designing for film and theater vs. working with high-end designers?

Designing for film and theatre is different in many ways than designing for the fashion industry. To compare the two seems slightly unfair. In the fashion industry you are designing for the buying public, which often dictates what you can actually design. While many designers try to “push the limits” … Read More »

The Best Makeup Tips EVER! | April 19, 2010

Over the last few weeks, it seems I’ve had more conversations than usual about makeup. Maybe it’s because I’m stressed over my upcoming book and want mindless chat. (Probably!) Or maybe it’s because my Girlfriends know I love to try new beauty products. (Most definitely!) Either way, I’m a BIG believer in telling your best beauty secrets because knowledge is only power IF you share it.

Before dances in high school, several of my best Girlfriends would pile into my bathroom so I could do their makeup and hair. (Fun times!) These days we may not be getting ready for dates, … Read More »

Fishies and Cocktails | April 19, 2010

Does the idea of going to an aquarium after-hours, and having a cocktail while you are there sound good to you jet setters? If it does, then I know just where you should go in SF…the California Academy of Sciences. My friend and I decided to check it out last Thursday night (thinking if it’s not a good event, who … Read More »
