A Fabulous Little So-And-So | May 31, 2010

Is it just me, or do we seem to live in a world that believes we are entitled to all things fabulous?

The truth is, we do have a right to all things fabulous.  It’s completely within our power; however, we give that power away when we assume other people, certain situations, and society as a whole owes us something.

Here’s today’s lesson:  nobody owes us anything.  It’s up to us to create something fabulous for ourselves.  We are responsible for our successes and our failures.

Yes, responsibility.  And you can throw in work, too.  Nobody can do it for us, so we … Read More »

Spring Makeup in Pinks and Golds | May 31, 2010

Usually my little daughter is the only one in a fairy costume–wings aflutter, the little sprite that she is. This spring’s makeup trends are so feminine and fairy-like (shimmery golds, precious pinks), it’s almost like I’m the one to take to the skies. They’re super easy to wear, so here’s the breakdown. Wings not included.

Golden Eyelids: A spring trend that’s pure gold. Keep it subtle (especially the older you are…Golden Girls was a show not known for its makeup, my darlings). Apply with caution. For everyday wear, choose golds with moderate … Read More »

The Pommery Exhibits: Experience #7 | May 31, 2010

Pommery Experience #7, “Formica,” by artist Jean-Pierre Formica

The Pommery exhibits are the brainchild of Mr. and Mrs. Paul-François Vranken of Vranken Pommery Monopole, great lovers of contemporary art. When the House was purchased by Vranken Pommery Monopole in 2002, the Vrankens decided to renew Pommery’s relationship with the arts on a grand scale. The connection dates back to the 19th century when Madame Pommery commissioned sculptor Gustav Navlet to carve four bas reliefs for the estate and later had the famous cabinet maker and glass artist Emile Gallé create a solid oak Pommery barrel that holds up to … Read More »

Newsletter: Months Eighteen and Nineteen | May 31, 2010

Dear Hayden:

Mommy is bad at blogging.   I totally missed your 18-month newsletter, partly due to the fact that I HAVE AN 18-MONTH-OLD.   Anyone who owns a toddler knows what I’m talkin’ ’bout, Willis.  So I’m combining your 18th and 19th month letters, as the last couple of months have been a blur, anyway.

Might I start off by saying that you’ve been SUPER helpful these past couple of months?  That sounds totally sarcastic when I read it back, but I’m actually dead serious.  You’re eager to help mommy with tedious chores such as folding laundry (read: hoisting yourself into the laundry … Read More »

Ready, Set, Demolish! | May 28, 2010

We recycle, we reclaim, we repurpose and sometimes we even reinvent. But now we demolish. Demolition wood is the latest trend in going green with home furnishings.

This wood has been salvaged from a demolition and reinvented into a really cool dining table for your home. So how can you detect a demolition table? It’s all in the surface. Demolition wood still has the markings from it’s prior life. It could be an old door with bolt marks or an old roof with nail holes. But it gets cleaned up and ready to serve meals on in your home. I really … Read More »

Do You Really Ask For What You Want? | May 28, 2010

Recently I stood there stammering because it was a question I’d never heard and certainly wasn’t prepared to answer. Now, I don’t want to leave you with the impression that someone asked me about solving world hunger or achieving world peace.. it was much easier than that. It was simple and direct: “What can we do to help you get what you want”. Who?… me? As my palms began to sweat, I realized I’d never actually told an audience what I wanted or truly need.

The morning started out innocently enough. I was asked to speak at a women’s networking breakfast. … Read More »
