Burberry is about to become more luxurious (if that’s even possible), with their soon to be launched line of cosmetics. It seems that all design labels have their hands in all cookie jars. And why not? John Fairchild himself said, “fashion is everywhere, it reaches everyone”. Indeed.
However, the creation of the makeup line seemed like the next step according to Christopher Bailey, chief creative officer for Burberry. “It started because I felt that, at shows and the shoots, the whole [Burberry] attitude is epitomized through the shoes, the bags, the clothes, the accessories, but then the face was the one thing I really struggled with. When we were doing makeup, I felt like we weren’t able to get the right attitude. It was either caked-on makeup or then just the wrong colors, the wrong tones, the wrong spirit for makeup. I wanted it to be this kind of effortless elegance.” he told WWD’s Brid Costello.
The line is said to be influenced by the line’s classic trench coat with beautiful neutrals and the lines signature check. Christopher felt that most makeup wasn’t natural, and his aim with this cosmetic line is to enhance a woman’s features by highlighting and enhancing her natural beauty, rather than cover it up.
The prices of the makeup line will range from $24-$60 – a much more accessible price point compared to some of the other designer rivals.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to Burberry’s makeup launch?
