Getting Ahead of the Game in the Kitchen | September 21, 2010

I know I have mentioned short cuts in the kitchen before but I read this statistic and thought this is a good time to mention them again.

According to the National Restaurant Association, “Americans currently spend 43 percent of their food dollar on food prepared away from home, compared to 36 percent in 1981. And that percentage is considered likely to increase in the future. National Restaurant Association statistics show that, even in the depths of the recession, customers have maintained their frequency of eating and ordering out. True, they are probably spending fewer dollars on each occasion (one reason why … Read More »

Brides of a Feather | September 20, 2010

This season’s runway trends of various embellishments, draping and hybrid fabrics give fall and winter brides more of an array of couture wedding dresses and styling ideas to draw inspiration from.  Plumage and wings are a whimsical touch seen from the Melissa Sweet collection.  Instead of bodices covered in encrusted gems and tiered skirts, plume and feather layers are combined with lace and chiffon to create a fairytale gown, almost out of a dream. Whether it’s bridal accessories such as pins and delicate bow arrangements, or attached to sweet straw fedoras; feathered … Read More »

Mediterranean Bean Soup | September 20, 2010

Ahhh fall. It’s been teasing us. We have a couple of cool days here in Oklahoma and then it’s summertime hot again. With the first whisper of cooler weather, I pulled out the soup pot. I love soup. It can be a complete, healthy meal in a bowl. It’s also, usually, relatively easy to make.

Bean soup is one of my favorites. Dried beans are cheap and easy to prepare. If you don’t want to use dried beans, you can always open up a couple of cans. Just be sure to rinse them to get some of the salt off before … Read More »

Malan Breton Spring/Summer 2011 Collection | September 19, 2010

Growing up, I enjoyed browsing through my parents’ old photo albums. To this day, the evocative richness of a black and white photo from the early to mid 20th century transports me into the captured moment. This past Monday Malan Breton debut his spring/summer 2011 line. As with my parents’ old photos, I was captivated immediately – only this time, the images actually came to life.

This event was more than just a fashion show. Watching it unfold, I could not shake the feeling that Malan was treating his guests as if we were in his own home. Malan’s show was … Read More »

A Winning Working Wardrobe! | September 17, 2010

For better or worse, how you dress determines how people react to you. What you wear sends a message about who you are, personally and professionally.

Facebook: The (anti) Social Network | September 16, 2010

Two years ago I went on the trip of a lifetime. It was a trip of many firsts: my first trip across the sea; my first trip to a different continent (two, in fact);and my first trip taken alone. It was also the first trip I took after the advent of Facebook so, upon my return, I did what everyone else seemed to be doing: I posted my photos.

I must admit, I see the allure. When a person posts something online they are given immediate satisfaction. With the internet people are able to comment and … Read More »
