by Mark Lachs, MD, Author of Treat Me, Not My Age: A Doctor’s Guide to Getting the Best Care as You or a Loved One Gets Older

Over my twenty-five-year medical career, the route by which people are admitted to the hospital for an overnight stay has subtly evolved in ways that most patients (and even many doctors) may not realize. Conversely, the percentage of … Read More »

NYFW Custo Barcelona Psychedelic Chic | September 15, 2010

Custo Barcelona’s spring 2011 show started at 7pm at night and how appropriate. I waited in line and heard the music pumping inside.   As the doors opened viewers rushed to their seats. I had a perfect seat on the end.  The lights went down and the show music began.

Custo Barcelona in bright blue neon light was shining and the spot light hit the first model.   Bold popping colors took over the runway, I felt like I stepped into the club scene of the 70′s.  Flowy print tops, acid washed denim, striped leggings, and … Read More »

What Price Beauty? | September 14, 2010

Or, Killer Hair – It’s closer to the truth than you think!

Most of us assume that the things we eat, drink and put on our bodies are safe, but if you believe that, your ‘reality train’ has sadly jumped its tracks.

It’s been a long week and you’re thinking that it would be nice to be pampered for a little bit. So you call your favorite salon and you make an appointment for a manicure and a pedicure. You’re really working at talking better care of yourself and you know that relaxation is an important part of that process. And what’s … Read More »

Interview with Rolando Santana | September 14, 2010

Born in Cuernavaca, Mexico, Santana spent his early childhood watching his mother make beautiful creations, for special clients, from a small dressmaking business she ran from their home. He recalls, “at that time, little did I realize, that her sewing room would serve as the inspiration for my love of fashion, and nurture my dream to become a designer.”   Rolando Santana is focused on designing with the customer in mind and creating looks with the primary purpose of always making all women feel beautiful in his dresses.

I had the opportunity to meet with Rolando at his showroom in the Fashion … Read More »

A Détacher NYFW Spring 2011 | September 14, 2010

I had never heard of the brand A Détacher before this New York Fashion Week, when I received the invitation I was fascinated by the quirky, typewriter print.  I discovered the designer Mona Kowalska worked with Sonia Rykiel before opening her shop in 1998.  It quickly became a favorite  of stylist and editors.

The Spring 2011 collection she said was inspired by neurosis.  There were pops of bright blue hues mixed with puff sleeve print tops. Silk dresses with metallic print, I always love a little gold or silver mixed into a look. Ivory knit jumpsuits, and asymmetrical sleeves made their … Read More »
