30-Minute Meals: Grandpa’s Chicken Dinner | January 31, 2011

My daughter and her family have dinner at my house every Sunday. I try to prepare something that is healthy and delicious. My six year old grandson, Dylan, loves chicken, salad, and fruit. Here is a simple meal for a family of four that always satisfies.

8 gourmet petite red-yellow Idaho potatoes

2 Cara Cara Navel Oranges

Romaine lettuce leaves

DIRECTIONS:

Pre-heat your oven to 350. Slice each breast lengthwise into 4 or 5 pieces. Slice the potato lengthwise in half, then in half again. Place in a baking dish. Add a … Read More »

Get The Dirt… But Keep It Clean! | January 31, 2011

Everyone loves good, clean gossip, but now there’s proof! A recent survey found that 60 percent of U.S. women that read celebrity gossip would rather hear about a celebrity’s positive comeback than their downfall (40 percent).

What is it about the celebrity lifestyle that’s so appealing? The fame, the fortune, the style? The truth is, though we may not want to admit it, we like hearing about celebrity gossip and we also like to keep things clean. That’s why Clorox® Regular-Bleach is giving you the chance to do both with Get the Dirt…but Keep it Clean, a new mobile program that … Read More »

Is It Sugar Or Fat That Is Making Us Fat? | January 31, 2011

By Michele Loesch

Don’t you often wonder which you are supposed to eat less of? Fat or sugar? What kinds of fat and sugars are you supposed to avoid and which ones should you eat?

When I was in my early 20’s (early 90’s) the craze then was “low fat” and “reduced fat foods.” Avoid anything with fat in it and eat processed foods that had the label of “low fat or reduced fat.” That was the answer to weight loss. Right?

Wrong! I fell into the trap and often binged on anything that had “0” … Read More »

Advice on 2011 Spring Makeup Trends | January 28, 2011

Spring 2011 makeup is three words: playful, bright, and glamorous.  This season is about having fun, being bold, and going retro.  70’s retro glamour with bright lipsticks, beautiful bronzed golden skin, and wild waves of color on the eyes and the return of pink cheeks all confirm, spring is all about color.

“Spring is a time to have fun and be playful with makeup,” says NARS professional makeup artist, Norman Sands. “Makeup choices can be like trying a new accessory in your wardrobe. Try a lip shade that you have never worn before.  You will be surprised at the compliments you receive.  … Read More »

Graceful Aging for All Fitness Levels | January 28, 2011

By Noreen Owens, M.Ed, Hanna Somatic Educator

If you’re not becoming more graceful with age, you are missing something. You’re not alone.  Collectively, we have been overlooking the role sensory awareness plays in maintaining our muscle resilience throughout life.  As a result, most people experience increasing discomfort as they grow older. We’ve all seen someone who has lost significant muscle resilience: the elderly man or woman who shuffles along stiffly, barely moving their arms and legs.

When you cannot relax your muscles, you cannot feel or move gracefully.  The difference between … Read More »

Everyone loves a little vintage vibe in his or her wardrobes; it simplifies the essence of an era gone by. In the past we have seen an assortment of looks that have taken inspiration from the 20s and 30s, however, this season seems to be set on re-inventing the 1970s.

Organize Your Home and Reclaim Your Life | January 27, 2011

Do you really need to hire a professional organizer to clear your clutter? Clearing household clutter can be as simple as one, two three!

When I married I discovered I had a wonderful mother-in-law who made June Cleaver from the television series Leave It to Beaver look like a slob. When she came to my house, I had to take her coat and, with the others, throw them on the bed. Even though my house was temporarily picked up for entertaining, I certainly wasn’t going to let her or any of my other guests … Read More »
