American Idol’s Top 10 Scandals | January 21, 2011

By Richard Rushfield, Author of American Idol: The Untold Story

Idol was perhaps the first show on television to have as much of a life off the screen as on.   These days we are used to The Hills girls, Bachelor contestants, Real Housewives and Jersey Shore housemates seeing their dramas spill over from the shows that made them famous to the covers of the tabloids and the greater celeb-obsessed blogosphere.

But when Idol debuted on the US airwaves in 2002, such a phenomenon was relatively unknown.  The Internet was still in its infancy and network … Read More »

Five Things To Look For In Your Date’s Face! | January 21, 2011

By Jean Haner

Thirty years ago, I married into a Chinese family.  But it wasn’t until a few years after the wedding that I discovered how truly tolerant my mother-in-law really was – because I didn’t have “moneybags” in my face I wasn’t a lucky match for her son!

My mother-in-law introduced me to face reading, and at first, I thought it was a ridiculous superstition – and how abhorrent to judge someone based on their appearance! It wasn’t until I began to study with master teachers that I discovered the deeper principles of … Read More »

Sparkle n’ Shine | January 21, 2011

For those of you that don’t know already – I’m a huge nail polish fanatic. I love it.

It’s the easiest way to give yourself an extra touch of glam during the day or night.

As for many, OPI is by far my favorite brand. They constantly have new colours coming out with the most unique names, fabulous new colours and textures (dare we remember the Suede collection from not too long ago *swoon*).

Currently, I’m head over heels for the collaboration OPI has done with Katy Perry. While her belting during songs that I hear 24/7 on the radio at times makes … Read More »

A Fish Out of Water: The Story of Skidboot | January 20, 2011

By Michael T. Smith

December 24, 1992, David Harwig, a Texas cowboy, sat in his living room.

His life was hard. David shoed and trained horses and worked his ranch. When time allowed, he entered calf-roping competitions with some success. It was a rough life. Although still a young man, David already had two hip replacements.

The hard work was the last thing on David’s mind on that Christmas Eve. He sat in his chair and fretted. Christmas was hours away and he didn’t have a Christmas gift for his wife Barbara.

The phone rang. “Hello?”

“David?”

“Yes?”

“It’s … Read More »

6 Tips For Finding The Perfect Foundation | January 20, 2011

1. Avoid full foundation coverage. Few people need to apply foundation all over the face. Simply apply where you have uneven skin tone (usually along your nose and on the skin). In wintertime, if your cheeks tend to get ruddy, apply there as well.

2. Consider a tinted moisturizer. Foundations can go on too thick for some people. Tinted moisturizers provide a lighter coverage. My absolute all-time favorite is Laura Mercier and the new Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation.

3. Pick the proper color and formula for your skin type. Choose a color that’s as close to your natural skin tone as possible. … Read More »
