Six Things You MUST Do This Year | January 19, 2011

The beginning of a new year is a time that inevitably makes me reflect on the past year and think about new passions and ambitions for the New Year coming up. I thought I’d share with you some things that I feel we could all do for 2011 to enhance our own personal power and enhance the quality of our life.

1) Love: Why limit small, meaningful pleasures like smiling and greeting everyone happily to only once a year? I say, love often and love much this year. Greet strangers, show random acts of kindness, … Read More »

Peacock Ring by Noir | January 18, 2011

Whether it’s a glittering necklace, a powerful cuff, or a dazzling pair of earrings, we always love a bauble that can spark a conversation on its own. Luckily, nOir’s kitschy-chic rings are like mini novellas for the fashion-forward set. The line’s intriguing designs include everything from a gunmetal New York skyline to a functioning Russian doll to a pave menagerie—filled with unlikely yet loveable pets such as hippos, octopi, and salamanders, to name a few—and are sure to put the wit back into your pithy repartee. However you choose to adorn those manicured talons, in one of nOir’s unique pieces … Read More »

Now Your iPhone Could Save Your Dog’s Life! | January 18, 2011

It was one of the most feared moments in any dog owner’s life that convinced dog-owners Arie Kopelman & Holger Laufenberg to develop the just released iPhone App – “My Dog”.

Holger’s 2-year old Terrier-Mix named Dax got away!

Holger had plans to see a matinee showing and as so many times before left Dax with his friend’s good-hearted 100-pound German-Shepherd named Luke, for a play-date with access to a securely fenced and locked front yard.

How could he have known that his friend’s gardener would come back unannounced and let himself in to … Read More »

Going Brazilian | January 18, 2011

I took a giant leap this year and signed up for a Brazilian Blowout. I know, I know, the minute we women hear brazilian we brace ourselves for the pain. This brazilian is north of the border and painless. April Lock, your ‘Image Engineer’ from Casa Blanca Salon in Tulsa, Oklahoma, tells you what a Brazilian Blowout is and how it can take the pain out of frizzy hair. April explains who benefits from this hair treatment, what the process entails and educates you on what makes the treatment work.

Abstract Dreams For Spring | January 18, 2011

Now that the holidays have finished; I’ve already begun pining for warmer days and more sunshine. Browsing spring collections of designers often makes my anticipation even stronger. I love seeing where each draws their inspiration from!

This spring, prints are everywhere – and while I’m not a huge fan of most prints except for classics (i.e. stripes, polka dots, etc), I have to say – the paisley/abstract look that has been captured by many for spring 2011 has me swooning.

I often look for pieces that can be worn multiple ways and that I can’t live without. This Tibi silk kaftan happens … Read More »

Diet, Exercise, and Love: Find What’s Right For You! | January 18, 2011

We strive so hard to do the right thing, get the right job, wear the right clothes, or meet the right person that it sometimes feels like we are living someone else’s life. We are in an era where if we choose one thing, we are afraid all other options might disappear. Get married, and you’ll never be intimate with anyone ever again. Have a baby, and lose out on your dreams. Take the corporate job with the big check, and lose a little bit of your soul. Get a killer body, but give up every single thing you love … Read More »

Crystal Octopus Ring | January 17, 2011

There’s no way to perfectly nail down the jewelry of Kenneth Jay Lane- all we can say is that the designer is well known to be the King of Costume Jewelry. Lauded in the industry as a pioneer of “faking it”, his loyal followers have included Audrey Hepburn, Jackie O, and Sarah Jessica Parker. We love his enamel and animal motifs in particular, but wearing any of his designs always makes us smile.

Price $165.00

One on One With The Pioneer Woman | January 17, 2011

Recently, I got up close and personal with Ree Drummond, ‘The Pioneer Woman’. A trip to the ranch with a group of girlfriends proved to be a delightful way to spend the day. Greeted with homemade sangria and a cheerful smile, Ree gave me a rare interview. The gal pals gave Ree a wonderful gift basket for her kindness where I showcased my book, Girlfriends 2.0 and Chic Galleria contributor, Jill Solomon’s Bless Her Heart Art cards.  You won’t want to miss this interview where Ree tells me what a girlfriend means to her.

30-Minute Meals: Ciopino | January 17, 2011

by Vicky DeRosa

Ciopino is thought to have originated in San Francisco.  It is believed that Italian immigrants from Genoa began making the stew from the catch of the day in the bay area.  Ciopino is a seafood based stew made with, tomatoes, wine and fresh herbs.  There are no set rules for the type of seafood to be used.

We enjoy Ciopino on Christmas Eve served over linguine.  My family likes it spicy so I add a little extra crushed red pepper to give it heat.  It seems to me that leftover Ciopino is … Read More »

Wishing Upon A Rising Star | January 14, 2011

If you are an up and coming designer you know how hard it is to get your name known in the fashion industry. Self promotion becomes your bestie and your second full time job! That certainly was the realization of designers Veronique Carter, owner of White Haute Fashions and Heather Porterfield, head designer of NOHE Weddings & Fashions. So instead of waiting for the industry to come knocking on their doors with an invite, they decided to break down the doors and promote their designs with their very own fashion show! How’s that for determination.

With that determination, Wish Upon A … Read More »
