Emerge from the Dark Side | February 17, 2011

Sometimes, we don’t understand just how dark it is until we start to see the light.

Perhaps we were flat-out told to do something in order to make someone else happy (Darling, marry a rich man who can support you – you know, that sort of thing).

We thus … Read More »

Ogilvy & Mather: The February Show | February 16, 2011

Ogilvy & Mather New York is pleased to announce The February Show, a group exhibition curated by Jun Lee and Heather Hart, which will open on Thursday, February 17, and remain on view through June 30, 2011. The aim of this exhibit is to highlight the diverse perspectives behind the concept of Black History Month. Our thoughts for the show touched upon the idea that this national celebration is an impetus for demanding a more thorough knowledge of our national history, and upon the absurdity that our nation assigns the recognition of Black American Culture to the shortest month of … Read More »

‘Fiber and Protein at Every Meal Make Losing Weight No Big Deal’ | February 16, 2011

You need fiber. And while I know it doesn’t sound particularly fun or sexy, it’s a fact and you know the reality about facts: we have to face them.

As bland and boring as you might think fiber is, it actually performs miracles inside your system that will help you look, feel and honestly be healthy. I recently had the pleasure of sharing lunch with Tanya Zuckerbrot MS RD, a nutritionist and author of The F-Factor Diet: Discover the Secret to Permanent Weight Loss and came away with a greater knowledge and understanding about the why’s and how’s of fiber in … Read More »

Upon arriving at the fabulous Lincoln Center, I mingled and took in all my surroundings—loving every moment of being at this fashion Mecca and seeing the most passionate people involved in the fashion industry making their dreams a reality. Putting on a show at the Lincoln Center is not a walk in the park by any means, and to make it there is something that designers dream about. Q&A With Janet Bond Brill, Author Of Prevent a Second Heart Attack | February 15, 2011

Each year, roughly 1.5 million Americans have a heart attack — and most of them survive. But research shows that just one year after their diagnosis, the vast majority fail to adhere to the dietary changes that could prevent a second heart attack. After losing her father to his second heart attack and fearing that her husband would suffer the same fate after his first, Dr. Janet Bond Brill was inspired to write Prevent a Second Heart Attack: 8 Foods, 8 Weeks to Reverse Heart Disease (Three Rivers Press, $15.00, February 1, 2011). Rescued Pups Help Disabled and Austistic Children | February 15, 2011

By Ilene Fine

It’s a typical Tuesday morning in our house and Brandy and Val know the routine.  I don’t know how exactly they know when it’s Tuesday, but they do, and as I go about putting the carrots and blueberries in their plastic containers, they’re hopping beside me in anticipation.  They know they’re going to see the kids. They know they’re going to work soon.  Brandy and Val, former down-on-their luck rescue pups, are now pampered pooches helping disabled and autistic children as pet therapy dogs.

Brandy and Val have checkered pasts who … Read More »

What to Wear: The Job Interview | February 15, 2011

A job interview outfit is one of the most important fashion events you will plan for. Sorry ladies but it’s not just what’s on the resume these days. Today’s market is more competitive and fierce than ever. There is a look that needs to accompany your fabulous skills and talents. I’ve worked in HR/Training for many years now and I’ve seen my share of train wrecks. I remember one candidate that stuck out to me; (quite literally) the girl with the HUGE stain all over her shirt. Come on. Fail to plan and plan to fail.

I can even admit my … Read More »

Sometimes You Just Have to Step Up and Pass It Forward | February 14, 2011

by Wendy Nan Rees

Every now and again we are blessed by the presence of something greater than we are and we’re then reminded that this world is so much bigger than just our four walls. I met Governor on a Saturday morning in Santa Fe, New Mexico through my mother-in-law at the time. She had a sense that my first dog, Webster, was going to pass away and she did not want me to be without a dog. It was her belief that I needed a dog no matter what, so she took me to meet my first litter of … Read More »
