The Five Friends Who Will Get You Through Your Divorce | March 31, 2011

By Stacy Morrison, Author of Falling Apart In One Piece: One Optimist’s Journey Through the Hell of Divorce

The Vault
This is the friend who listens, and listens, and then listens some more. And who understands that his only role is essentially not to react to 98 percent of your utterances as you are processing all the impossible changes that are heading into your life, except with a full range of compassionate “Mmm-hmm”s, “I know”s and “I bet”s. He doesn’t call you on some of the more outrageous or crazy or unstrung things you might say … Read More »

The Art of Knitwear: OR by Angela Chen | March 31, 2011

Drawing inspiration from contemporary artist Jonathan Lasker, Angela Chen is embracing the complexities of simplicity while exploring the Art of Knitwear.

This season’s Fall Winter 2011 collection, titled Sleep & Poetry (also the partial title of a Lasker book of drawings & poetry and a poem by John Keats) focuses on repetition and freehanded lines based upon perception and intuition. Each objet d’art is composed of textured yarns in neutral tones making up 16-odd looks that will come to life on the runway this Friday, April 1st at 2:00PM EST at Heritage Court.

With a strong appreciation for Lasker’s artistic technique, misshapen … Read More »

Resolving Conflict Peacefully | March 31, 2011

Nothing hurts your relationship like fighting. It is imperative for the health and continuation of your relationship to learn to resolve conflict peacefully. I always tell my clients to go home and rent two movies and study them: THE BREAKUP and WAR OF THE ROSES. It is another example of art illustrating and imitating life. Now there is no such thing as a couple who are going to agree on everything. The key to a good relationship is being able to resolve those differences without hurting each other and inflicting damage on the relationship. Learning to resolve differences … Read More »

With Silence Comes Wisdom | March 30, 2011

Please give me the minimum amount of information with the maximum amount of politeness.”  (Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis)

This statement provides me with yet one more reason to adore the late JBKO.  In this age of information, one can literally become overwhelmed by it all.  It doesn’t help, either, if you find yourself stuck with Chatty Cathys all day long.

Why do so many feel the need to purge themselves by talking incessantly about anything and everything?  Do we owe it to “reality” TV, where so many people have license to say and do the most outrageous things?  Do we owe it … Read More »
