Why Does Chief Listen to my Husband and Not Me? | June 9, 2011

Dear Inquisitive Canine,

My five-year-old yellow lab, Chief, is great when my husband is walking him or just hanging out in the front yard with him while he works. However, when I am walking him or have him outside off-leash, he barks and runs after other dogs, despite using the same commands as my husband. Why is it that he listens to my husband and not me? I am his caretaker, not my husband.

From,

Chief’s mom

Dear Mom of Chief,

I totally understand how frustrating it can be when you don’t feel like you’re being heard! It’s hard … Read More »

Traveling With Jewelry | June 9, 2011

By Joe Brandt

Travel is a time when many people manage to expose their possessions to potentially risky situations without realizing that they are putting anything in danger, and learn of their mistakes the hard way.

Hotels are, of course, the perfect place for someone to identify out-of-towners. There are rarely restrictions on access to hotel lobbies, and this is a point of high visibility.

Under no circumstances should you ever flash … Read More »

By Lisa Bloom, Author of Think: Straight Talk for Women to Stay Smart in a Dumbed Down World

Rep. Anthony Weiner’s tearful apology for sending revealing pictures of his chest and underwear-covered genitalia at his press conference today was agonizing.

Painful for him, sure, but much more so for what it reveals about us, a nation easily captivated by sexual peccadillos and yuck-yuck wiener jokes, but otherwise somnolent about real issues crying out for our attention, as I detail in my new book, Think.

Let’s be clear. Weiner didn’t cheat on his wife. He didn’t touch another woman, as far as we know. He didn’t … Read More »
