Summer Mix: Denim and Neon | August 8, 2011

One of my favorite mixes in the summer is denim and neon. Denim tends to stand for a few things; blue collar workers, the south, and America. Neon, on the other hand, is bright and lively. The mix of the two provides a delightful contrast. Featured here, I pair denim shorts and a cropped jacket, with pink and turquoise accents.

The turquoise earrings pictured are Peggy Li fringe stone, complementing the layering of the outfit. The layered gold chains makes for a chunkier earring. Yet, the one beautiful turquoise … Read More »

By Scott Rigby and Richard M. Ryan, Authors of Glued to Games: How Video Games Draw Us In and Hold Us Spellbound

It’s a parent’s job to protect his or her kids while at the same time providing them with opportunities to learn, grow, and, of course, be happy. New York Moments, Champagne, and Fashion | August 4, 2011

The ones that make the cursing cab drivers, missed subway trains, or astronomical rents fade into the white noise of the city; the moments when you look around and go, “Damn, I’m the luckiest person in the world right now, only in New York.”

These moments, they’re like a drug high (I would imagine?), a wine buzz (check) or mind-blowing sex (check). These moments create a euphoric feeling; natives and tourists alike never want to leave, or grow up. New York City is the real life version of Peter Pan’s Never Never Land.

Stuffed mushrooms are cooked very quickly. Also, you can make them one night ahead, keep in the refrigerator and then cook just before serving.

Swiss Chard with Pancetta, Feta and Pistachios

By: By Robin Donovan and Juliana Gallin, authors of The Lazy Gourmet: Magnificent Meals Made Easy

Sometimes I add garbanzo beans to the vegetarian version. And of course you can substitute any greens you like for the chard (kale, spinach, beet greens, etc.) and any nuts for the pistachios (walnuts, pecans, etc.). You can also use a blue cheese instead of Feta.

Ingredients:

5 ounces (about 1¼ cups) diced pancetta

1¼ pounds chard (or … Read More »
