Italian Romance: Rolando Santana’s Spring Summer 2012 Collection | September 19, 2011

Having been diagnosed with a serious shoe addiction, I was SO EXCITED and anxious to see Rolando Santana’s collaboration with Manolo Blahnik at his runway show on Wednesday night at Exit Art Gallery. The gallery was packed with people stirring about what would be in his line for the spring summer season 2012. Socialites and celebrities such as Stephen Baldwin graced the front row. As the fashion industry does so well, the show started a bit fashionably late—but was completely worth the wait! Imagine yourself walking through the streets of Italy. The romantic setting and classic style is all around … Read More »

Getting the Most Bang For Your Buck at Trendy Stores | September 19, 2011

Trend Alert: I’ve said this before, but more than ever I’m seeing small boutiques pop up offering stylish, trendy clothing at affordable prices. Here in town, there’s Sophie & Trey, 4th and Ocean, Tinka’s Closet, Francesca’s Collection and, of course, H&M, to name a few. Some online stores are also doing it: Lulus, ModCloth and even ASOSs offers a mix of affordable and designer.

I think these places are great for inexpensive trendy items. On the flip side, when cleaning out my closet, the items I buy at these stores are always the first to … Read More »

Trending Unique, Vintage and Pre-Owned Clothing | September 19, 2011

During the early 1990’s the demand for vintage clothing grew substantially. By 2005 e-commerce vintage sites were popping up everywhere: such as Etsy, which is focused on homemade and vintage items. Even Elle.com made a site just for vintage fashion.

With growing popularity, many women turn to fashion bloggers. Bloggers are beginning to be featured in magazines and representing brands. Many bloggers praise vintage shopping, because of its opportunity to be truly unique. Also, on a bloggers salary, vintage clothing is a way to buy “new” clothes at low prices.

Along with e-commerce, bloggers, and magazines, well-known brands are beginning … Read More »

Front Row Seats to Fashion Week Compliments of CatwalkLive.TV | September 16, 2011

Don’t book your plane ticket just yet. Virtually speaking, Roz from @RozFashionista and founder of CatwalkLive.TV, is passing out the opportunity to watch London, Milan, and Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011 collections via live stream feed.  Though every designer’s show is not streamed live, there is enough that do to keep us well-informed of international women’s ready-to-wear fashion.  Chasing after designers’ websites and Facebook accounts used to be the lot of those wanting to watch these shows.  If a designer provided live stream at all, their announcement to do so could only be found by checking and rechecking their sites.  Some do not get … Read More »

Why Age No Longer Defines Fashion | September 16, 2011

I have the same New Look dress as Rochelle from Uk pop group The Saturdays. Rochelle is in her early twenties, I am in my mid 30′s. Which begs the question – am I too old for this dress, or is the dress too old for Rochelle?

The answer, happily, is no on both counts. The days when shops had a clearly age defined audience have long gone, with mothers and daughters happily shopping in the same places, and sometimes buying the same things. Why is this now the case?

Part of the answer to this is that women, … Read More »

Color Blocking and Cutouts for BCBG Max Azria S/S 2012 | September 15, 2011

The moment I laid my eyes on this spring/summer ready-to-wear collection, I quickly noticed a similar color blocking theme to its prior fall/winter collection, making this somewhat of a carryover collection.  That said, this collection is in no way last season’s collection.  As the models began to make their way down the runway, the looks began with lighter neutral tones of tan and off-white with color blocks of butter and peach.  About midway through, deeper neutrals like gray and black were blocked with third and fourth additions of deeper pigment colors like mustard, orange, slate blue, with some touches of … Read More »
