First dates; a time of sweaty palms, nervous conversation, and happy butterflies in your stomach. We often feel that everything is one the line with this first courting — and so we spend ours looking in our closets, and in the mirror trying to find that “perfect” look.

But…what is the perfect look?

1) If you aren’t sure what will be taking place over the course of the evening, the best thing is to prepare best you can for any scenario in one outfit. Layering is key.

2) I often tell clients that classic pieces in bright splashes of colour are a great way to go for starters. While trends are amazing, you don’t want to go too and look like your having an identity crisis.

3) Get something that fits your body type well. People always look their best when their clothing fits properly and compliments their figure. Hire an image consultant if you aren’t sure.

4) Know your colours; having your, ‘colours’ done really gives you a “wow” factor. It gives you a healthy glow, and makes you look flawless. Trust me. It’s amazing!

5) Don’t break the bank. While designer clothing is amazing — if you’re in need of a quick outfit for the evening, you can create amazing looks for less. The outfit in this article is comprised of pieces from H&M and Forever21 and is only $70.00! On a side note — Forever 21 can be very youthful — I only use them for accessories.

For some general outfit ideas:

For men, a trouser or a dark wash denim (light washes are too casual and dated) with a dress shirt, and casual blazer is a great look. It’s a smart/dress casual look that is universally accepted. If you wear or bring a blazer you’ll have a layering piece for yourself — or your lady incase she gets cold.

For women, a dress is a great option — just make sure you can move in it! Dresses are wonderful because you can dress them up or down with a few accessories, jackets, or shoes. I recommend wearing flats if you’re unsure as to what you’ll be doing. If you end up going for a walk or spending a lot of time standing — your feet will thank-you.

And remember, no matter how fashionable you may or may not be — have fun with your personality in what you wear and be comfortable. The rest will follow.

Summertime – afternoons of lazy patio lunches, sun kissed skin, and ice cold drinks. It’s a wonderful time to indulge in the outdoors and brighten our moods and outfits with vibrant colours.
