No matter our feelings about the war, we all can agree to support our troops. And whereas these fall looks aren’t exactly dress blues, D&G does play homage with these military-inspired looks in their fall collection.

Although the military look promises to be a trend this fall, that doesn’t mean you should dig out your old camouflage fatigues — or buy anything in that traditional army green. Shop for a jacket that goes well with both denim jeans as well as a pair of pants — and that can easily go from day to night.

My affinity to designer labels comes from my dad. I remember when I was in high school, I would take one of his Lacoste shirts with me and wear it to school. I learned from him then. Nowadays, the roles are reversed and I tell my dad what is hip and cool. Of course, I always tell him in subtle ways. One way of letting him know on trends is through gifts. Like last Christmas, I gave my dad a pair of Dolce & Gabanna aviators in replacement of his dated Raybans.

For Father’s Day, as the old saying goes, ‘It is the thought that counts’. You don’t have to give dad designer stuff. But if you can afford it go for it!

John Galliano Men’s Fall 2009

If I was given the opportunity to be John Galliano for a day, I would probably say no. With all the ideas in his head with the wheel of creative process turning non-stop 24/7, I might go kukoo. Not only he has to design his own collections, he also has fashion powerhouse Christian Dior to tend to. So, it’s not surprising to see John Galliano to take a break from all the stress and pressure. But I’m not talking about laying on a beach in the Caribbean sipping Mai-Tais. That’s a luxury John Galliano not necessarily can’t afford, he just doesn’t have the time.

So, he does the next best thing… escape to a world of pirates and buccaneers, well-dressed men and half-naked men dance to the melodic tunes of Pan. Luckily, we don’t have to imagine this magical place. It became a reality on a runway in Paris in John Galliano Men’s Fall 2009 Collection. Some may say that the collection is over-the-top, blah, blah, blah. I see it as someone just having a lot of fun!

My apologies for the temporary blindness the photos above may have caused. To be honest, I actually like the ‘glow worm’ look! Calvin Klein surely transformed and made me appreciate these colors which always reminded me of the 80′s. A time when excessive and exaggerated fashion ruled the catwalks and every magazine. I suggest not to wear head-to-toe neon colors. Unless you have this ongoing fear of getting hit by a car while crossing the street. And if you do get hit by a car while wearing your best imitation of a giant reflector… tough luck. Happy New Year!

Men’s Spring 2009 Collections

Happy Holidays Chic Galleria readers! Hopefully you’re enjoying the company of people dear to your heart.

Winter just began but in the world of fashion, Pre-Fall collections have already flocked the runways of Paris, New York, Milan and other fashion capitals of the world. Being abreast with the trends in fashion is all great, I see it more of a point of reference. Why look into fall collections when the next season is spring? So, let’s take it one season at a time.

Men’s Spring 2009 Collections are much improved this year compared to last. After viewing most of the spring collections, I noticed quite the contrast of colors and patterns between American designers and their European counterparts. Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren welcomes the new season with bright, bold colors and prints while Dolce & Gabbanna, Gucci and Burberry Prorsum opted for muted colors and solid palletes.

Whether your American or European, you have to admit that having a variety of distinct styles gives us more options and the opportunity to exercise our own personal style.
