Bathroom Etiquette: The Rules of Engagement | July 19, 2010

There are certain situations in life which seem to have an unwritten code of conduct. Business meetings, weddings, funerals and pretty much any event involving a church- from picnics to bingo; craft sales to youth groups. A person generally knows when to sit, when to stand, when to speak and when to stay quiet and it is fairly well known, although never stated out loud, that food is frowned upon when meeting with the CEO, board of directors, rabbi or priest. And although a latte would be very much appreciated in many of these situations it’ll be … Read More »

Three Ways to Make the Most of Women’s Intuition | July 15, 2010

By Sherrie Dillard, Author of Love and Intuition: A Psychic’s Guide to Creating Lasting Love

For generations the term “women’s intuition” has been used to describe the unexplainable, non-logical, sometimes quirky wisdom that women often possess. No one quite knows how or why intuition works. But it does.

Intuition has been defined as simply knowing something without any reasonable and logical way of knowing it. Associated with the right side of the brain, intuition resides in the elusive realm of emotions, creativity and imagination, the domain of the feminine.

Everyday in ways that normally go unnoticed, our intuition is at work. We intuit … Read More »

DON’T WAIT FOR THE WORLD TO CHANGE | July 13, 2010

Driving to work this morning, I was listening to John Mayer’s “Waiting on the World to Change”. Love the song, but I find some fault with it and as I thought more and more about it, one thought led to another and the snowball turned into an avalanche of thoughts and feelings.

‘Waiting on the world to change’ sounds so…well, lazy. Waiting, as if one person, one voice, could not possibly make a difference. It does seem insurmountable, but when one person and then another person, and then another person and so forth start moving in the direction of change, pretty … Read More »

A Life Lesson: Using the Good Dishes | July 12, 2010

I enjoy Vanilla Coke. This statement isn’t meant to be particularly interesting or any sort of product endorsement. Instead, it’s noteworthy only because of the fact I can’t get Vanilla Coke where I live. So every time I head south of the border I am always on the lookout not for bargains or brand names but for vanilla-flavoured carbonated beverages.

The thing is… whenever I drink a Vanilla Coke I feel guilty. My supply is limited and enjoying a beverage now means there will be one less to enjoy later. I find myself questioning every can. Is the occasion special? Am … Read More »

Conventional Living | July 9, 2010

My husband and I don’t necessarily have what one might call a conventional lifestyle.  He makes his living playing rock and roll; I make mine telling people how to dress and behave.  We don’t have children.  His hair is longer than mine.  We seem to prefer evenings at home rather than ones spent hitting the town.  We don’t make a tremendous amount of money, but we have every material thing we need (a comfortable home, running vehicles, hair care products….), and we enjoy a few small luxuries along the way (dinners out, trips to the beach, and a lovely woman … Read More »

By Kristen Moeller, Author of Waiting for Jack: Confessions of a Self-Help Junkie: How to Stop Waiting and Start Living Your Life

Summer is officially here. For many women, that means bathing suit anxiety. That means more focus on those “troubling” body parts. That means a last minute purchase of a gym membership that you won’t use.

This summer, disrupt the ordinary, draw a line in the sand and set your own standards for body image and perfection. What if you looked back on this summer as the year you accepted yourself and your body the way it is right now?

Practice these … Read More »

Recipes That Make You Feel Better | July 6, 2010

By Judith J. Wurtman, PhD and Nina T. Frusztajer, MD, Authors of The Serotonin Power Diet: Eat Carbs — Nature’s Own Appetite Suppressant — to Stop Emotional Overeating and Halt Antidepressant-Associated Weight Gain

There are some evenings when we all wish our Moms were in the kitchen cooking a meal that would make us feel better. We are too old to be fretting over a bad test grade or nasty remark from someone on the playground but being grown up doesn’t mean we don’t need comfort when we return home.

Fortunately, it is really easy to prepare a dinner yourself that will … Read More »

Facebook Confession | July 5, 2010

I have a confession that might strike you as shocking. Here goes. I’m a thirty-something who doesn’t use Facebook. That might make me sound like a Luddite, but that’s the risk I’m willing to take. I’ve never had an account and don’t plan on having one. Ever. And it’s more complicated to not have one that you might think. I’m asked on a near-weekly basis by friends and acquaintances why I don’t have one.

A friend explained the site  to me because she was convinced that I just didn’t know enough about it. After her demonstration, she tried to convince me to … Read More »
