Quick Guide to Dealing With Your Hair Texture | September 2, 2010

It’s time to set the record straight. All hair is not created equal; therefore, it shouldn’t be treated equal. Wasn’t that in the Constitution or something? Maybe it was the Declaration of Independence. Not sure. I was absent that day at school. Anyway…

“Knowing your own hair texture and the current healthy of your hair is the next step in realizing what styling options you have,” says celebrity stylist Dickey, founder of NY-based Hair Rules Salon and Line.

Here are the four main hair textures and Dickey’s guide to caring for them:

Having a sister as a makeup artist, I am constantly combing through her endless supplies to see the latest and greatest. So of course when I had the chance to interview Zena Shteysel, a fabulous makeup artist working on Dancing with the Stars, I was thrilled.  There were so many questions that quickly came to mind, especially knowing she has her own makeup line and OMG, has worked with Kim Kardashian! Zena was kind enough to take a few moments and fill us in.

How did you get started as a Make-up Artist?

I got started as a makeup artist by actually … Read More »

Seeking Pore Perfection? I’ve got the Goods! | September 1, 2010

Luckily, if you aren’t naturally waking up to flawless looking skin, much has been accomplished in the advancement of faking it.  Beauty companies know that we want to dumb down the look of our wrinkles and have our pores to appear minimized, and most of don’t want to undergo pricey treatments to get there.  And pain, possible bruising and downtime aren’t in the cards either, for me anyway, so that is all the more reason these products intrigue me. They claim to minimize pores, lessen the look of fine lines and wrinkles and set the stage for foundation, if you … Read More »

Back To School Styles with PUMA | August 31, 2010

PUMA has always been my favorite brand of sneaker.  They are my go-to shoe for any situation where I’m having to do a lot of walking.  I’m always comfortable in my PUMA’s because they hug my narrow foot.  I even have PUMA footie socks!

Once I bought a pair of black PUMA’s with white stripes only to find out my daughter had the same pair.  Gasp!  How embarrassing that we might have matching shoes!  Luckily for both of us, I own the same pair in brown and white too.

These new Imani shoes that PUMA sent me to try are amazing.  I … Read More »

Hollywood Loves a Great Handbag | August 30, 2010

By Dorothy Howell,
Author of Shoulder Bags and Shootings: A Haley Randolph Mystery

Fashion is a major player in Hollywood. Wardrobe departments spend tireless hours perfecting the right “look” for their actors. Celebrity stylists live or die by the image they craft for their clients. Magazines and television shows devote themselves to photos and descriptions of celebrity clothing and accessories.

From the style and elegance of fashion icons such as Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn during Hollywood’s Golden Era, to pics of celebs like Jennifer Aniston and Reece Witherspoon hitting the trendy L.A. shops, the public is fascinated by what they’re wearing.

Regardless of … Read More »

Kiwi Sweaters Made from Possum | August 28, 2010

When you travel to the southern hemisphere in summertime, you bring home winter gifts. It just makes you blink and scratch your head, but of course that’s because you’ve traveled to the opposing pole with opposing seasons.  This brings me to sweaters and the cute animal most Kiwis (New Zealanders) have learned to hate, but some have developed a warm heart for them.

The Europeans – although all Kiwis blame the Australians – brought the Possums to the islands of New Zealand.  You’re probably thinking of the rat-like critters with the thin snouts and long narrow tail. Alas, those are the … Read More »

LOFT is speaking my language!  I’m so excited that they have jumped on the petite bandwagon.  We 5′ 4″ and under gals love to find a fit that actually FITS!  The newly redesigned LOFT petites collection is perfectly proportioned for us.

Anyone who finds a regular size top or bottom too long in the sleeve, torso, rise, hem or leg is petite.  Petite is all about height and proportion – not weight.

The Golden Driller and a Little Black Dress | August 26, 2010

Heralded by Vogue as “a sort of uniform for all women of taste,” the little black dress was first introduced in the early 1920s my Coco Chanel.  It’s popularity grew with designers such as Dior, Givenchy and Bill Blass altering it’s length, bodice and trimmings to meet the trends of their time.  The little black dress is the one staple that every woman must have in their wardrobe.  As Editor-in-Chief of Chic Galleria magazine (www.chicgalleria.com), being part of the Society Stylist’s The Little Black Dress Experiment Tour placed me in front of the third largest free-standing statue in the United … Read More »

Five Tips to a Whiter Smile | August 25, 2010

Whitening your teeth doesn’t have to mean $1,000 and a two-hour stint in a chair with lights all over your mouth. Here, some quick fixes for whiter teeth that you can do throughout the day to get instant results:

Use over-the-counter whitening strips. If you don’t want to sit around staring in the mirror while your teeth whiten, there’s nothing that says you can’t stick them on while you’re in the shower. Multi-tasking, my friend. Thy name is you.

After eating, swish water or mouthwash in your mouth for 30 seconds to help rinse away any stain-causing … Read More »

One look that has recently come back into fashion both on the runway and in the celebrity world is the boho chic trend. It seems that the look is on the rise again this year though, so break out those floaty skirts and cowboy boots and get ready to get bohemian!

In fashion, the boho look is particularly inspired by the hippie trend and the ideology of hippies and bohemians. These ideologies are associated with freedom and relaxation, and therefore … Read More »
