Project Runway's Jack Shops Design Show

BWshirtheadshot.jpgJack Mackenroth taught himself to sew when he was about 12 because he wanted to wear cool clothes and his family didn't have a lot of money. I was always very interested in visual arts so it sort of just snowballed from there. Jack went to U.C. Berkeley for his BA in Fine Arts and then he went to Parsons Design School in New York for Fashion Design.

Recently I asked Jack where he drew inspiration for his designs, his favorite experiences thus far in his career and what's in the future for this amazingly talented designer.

I draw inspiration from everything around me. My brain is a sponge for any type of visual media. I also really take into consideration the client or customer I am designing for. New York is a constant source of inspiration. I love the subway. It's the great equalizer--you see all types of fashion fabulous and disasters.

Jackheathertomsmall.jpgWell my favorite experience would have to be competing on Season 4 of Project Runway. I made amazing friends and out of that came so many other fantastic experiences. I made an Emmy dress for Heather Tom and I just finished a couture wedding gown made out of 2500 condom wrappers for a benefit fashion show in San Francisco. The fun is never ending!

I am working on an amazing HIV/AIDS educational campaign called Living Positive By Design. (LivingPositiveByDesign.com) and our next event is Fashion Forward on November 10th in NY with Tim Gunn as the host. I am also working on a Wonder Woman costume made out of chocolate for the Chocolate Show November 6th in New York.

Kevin Christiana (also from my season of Project Runway) are working on our own design show which we pitch to networks later this month. Hopefully we will start filming this January! And wherever I am I will always be designing.....

More updates on Jack Mackenroth coming soon!
