Rami Kashou, designer and Project Runway alumnus, moved to the US. back in 1996, took courses in design and decided to drop out three months after hoping to learn and build a name in the industry at the same time. He stayed in the fashion retail circle as a sales associate, buyer and merchandiser. During that time he purchased two sewing machines and sewed during every free time, day off and weekend that he had.
"I taught myself draping and began creating one of a kind pieces that sold in notable boutiques in Los Angeles. Through that window opening celebrities such as Jessica Alba and Lindsay Lohan began wearing my clothes."
"My inspiration always revolves around women. It is very simple to me, I think a woman's body is a work of art, and I think of different and new ways to frame it with beautiful fabrics that flow, move and come to life once the are worn on the body. Of course there are stories from history books, art galleries, vintage looks, movies, etc. that outline a theme for each collection. My goal is to celebrate women and I hope to make them feel more special, beautiful and confident with my designs."
Rami, what are your best selling items and your favorite experience so far?
"My best selling items are unique dresses and tops that are timeless and suitable for every occasion. I think women love to wear my dresses because they bring out a new feeling; a sense of a new experience. I also think that women like the way my dresses are cut and fit, they are flattering for all shapes and sizes."
My favorite experience in my profession is for example when I send a design to Heidi Klum and she may have the dress with her for a long time...won't know when she will wear it but one day all of a sudden I see it in a magazine and she is wearing it and looking fabulous! That feels great.. when I see my work on iconic people whom people look up to and they look great!
What's in the future for Rami?
Currently I am working a great deal on special orders with brides and evening wear. I plan to open a boutique where exclusive designs and special orders can be placed. I would like to open an official website boutique, even though I have been having a great deal of sales through the website as it is.
