Making Chores Fun

Parents truly want their children to grow up to be responsible people. We want them to understand how to care for themselves as well as their things. But let's face it; we just do not always have the energy or enthusiasm to make it fun for them. And when it is not fun for the child, it is definitely not fun for the parent.

Deck of Chores comes with 52 chore-pictured playing cards in a self-standing container. The quality of the container and durability of the cards makes them easy to use by the entire family. The cards come with suggested ways in which you can use the cards to encourage fun chore activity in your family. My family settled on a bit of a different scenario. We play what we call, "Go Fish Chores." Players get one last trade at the end of the game and the matched cards you have at the end are your chores for the week. I am sure we will change the game from time to time to keep it interesting and fun. The ways to use the cards are just endless.

The deck includes chores for that are easily used for all ages. Some chores may require a bit of parental involvement for younger children, such as Wash the Car. With Parent's Choice cards included, parents may easily include a chore for the youngest members of the family. However, I have been impressed with my son's eagerness to get the Wash the Windows card. Who knew?

These cards not only make a great gift for parents, I believe they would make a good gift for newlyweds or teenagers heading off to college.
