Baby Essentials That Do Double Duty | March 3, 2010

We all know that lipstick can double as blush and that you can use a piece of pencil eraser for a missing earring back in a pinch, but did you know that there are a multitude of items in your toddler’s diaper bag that can do double duty?  In my last 16 months of mommyhood, I’ve discovered some cool tools in Hayden’s room – baby essentials that moonlight as  grown-up gear!

Baby oil -  If the name doesn’t give it away, it’s most commonly used on your baby’s delicate new skin.   Another use?  Smooth it onto YOUR skin after you get … Read More »

Being Pretty Sick | February 23, 2010

I’ve always been a healthy woman…that is until my daughter entered the cesspool world of preschool. So now with every school project that enters our home come the germs of dozens of little runny noses, sore throats and puffy faces.

Here are a few tricks to at least look pretty even when you’re pretty sick.

Problem: No sleep

You have: Raccoon eyes

Pretty Quick Fix: Slice a raw potato and place the slices under your eyes for a few minutes. The potassium helps get rid of under eye dark circles. Place a dot of light eyeshadow in the inner corner of your eyelid and … Read More »

My Hat’s Off to You | January 25, 2010

Maybe it’s the way I stroll slowly through the hat department, longing for something new. Perhaps it’s how I lovingly lift my grandmother’s fine vintage examples out of their boxes, eager to wear them mix with the latest style. Or the way my hat shelf is brimming with berets, Trilbys, bakerboy caps, fur hats, etc. You get it. I love hats.

But why am I always trying to cover my hair? Seriously. The reason…I have no follow through. Outfit, check. Makeup, check. Hair…oh, let’s wear a hat, shall we?

My do is usually a don’t, I won’t lie. It’s the last thing … Read More »

Winter’s Rough Stuff | January 18, 2010

I’m sure I’m not the only one who loves the whistling of an old radiator heater. It’s a comforting sound that’s reminds me of being a kid, settling into my cozy bed on a chilly New England night, feety PJs in full effect. That whistle meant toasty flow of warm air was on its way.

It’s also a sneaky siren. One that calls your moisture. And whisk! It’s gone.

Let’s face it. Literally. Winter temperatures went down and your skin dried up. Spring isn’t on the horizon for months and your face is a lackluster reminder of scraping ice off windshields and … Read More »

How Dry I Am | January 11, 2010

Sandpaper lips. Hot. A body of all-over flakes. Touchable. Frizz hair resembling a high school science project involving a balloon. Sex-ee.

Or not.

Winter…she is a cruel mistress. Dry sense of humor. Not only does she rob you of slimming clothing options (really, who looks thin in 14 layers of fabric and thick boots?…ok, Kate Hudson…but who else?), but she steals from you every drop of moisture you have.

Here are few quick fix-its for when your pout is pitiful, every day is bad hair day, and your skin…well, let’s just say the Sahara comes to mind.

Dry lips: Come over here and lay … Read More »

Applying Beauty Products After a Facial Procedure | December 11, 2009

*Skin is very delicate after a facial procedure.  By using a natural foundation on top of SPF, you are creating an inclusive barrier that will help protect your skin.  The foundation will also allow your skin to breathe, which aids in healing.

*Look for a natural concealer that has Shea Butter in it, which is known to help heal and calm the skin.  Apply a light layer where needed.  It also provides sun protection.

*It’s important to use natural-based skin products after a skin procedure.  Many chemicals that are in skincare and makeup are irritating to the skin and may cause redness, itching and … Read More »

Not Animal Tested? | December 10, 2009

For years now, there have been countless protests to scientists testing products for humans on animals. I mean after all – who on earth would want to harm some of the sweetest creatures?

Shoppers have become more savvy as the years go by, and are constantly on the hunt for products that haven’t been tested on animals. Many manufacturers have become aware of this trend – which is a fabulous thing!

But how smart are we as consumers?

The most troublesome fact is that manufacturers get away with A LOT just by playing with words in their campaigns or placing certain labels on … Read More »

Fabulous Boost | December 7, 2009

There are many people nowadays that work from home – whether they’re job is a stay at home parent or business individual. While this gives us wonderful freedom and flexibility in our schedules, it also allows us to be more “comfy” in our attire.

I, myself, am guilty of occasionally wearing sweat pants when working from home. They are so comfortable! The problem is, most people feel they’ve “let themselves go” when wearing them too frequently. This is concerning, because how you perceive yourself affects all area’s in your life – your body language, social skills, confidence, performance at work and … Read More »
