DuWop Color Changing Lipsticks | January 4, 2011

Continuing the success of last year’s breakthrough hit, Private Red, DuWop launched two new shades: Private Nude and Private Plum. These unique color changing lipsticks morph one hue into each woman’s personal nude and plum shades, leaving behind the most flawless color.

Much like their precursor, Private Nude and Private Plum contain a proprietary formula that includes a blend of three naturally derived pigments – annatto, hibiscus and henna – and the technology behind the “mood lipsticks” of the seventies to provide a vibrant shade to suit … Read More »

Kissable Soft Lips All Winter Long‏ | November 15, 2010

The health and appearance of your lips is just as important as the health and appearance of your skin. Dry, flaky lips are never good. Before you buy a lip scrub at your local drug store, think of making your own preservative and chemical free version at home. I use a simple & affordable lip scrub made from ingredients right in my kitchen.

1 teaspoon Olive Oil
1 teaspoon Granulated Table Sugar or Brown Sugar
1 small drop of Lemon or Peppermint Extract (optional)
Toothbrush (optional)
Warm Cloth or Paper Towel

Combine olive oil, sugar and extract until they are the consistency of sand. Add small … Read More »

In the Trenches | May 20, 2010

Burberry is about to become more luxurious (if that’s even possible), with their soon to be launched line of cosmetics. It seems that all design labels have their hands in all cookie jars. And why not? John Fairchild himself said, “fashion is everywhere, it reaches everyone”. Indeed.

However, the creation of the makeup line seemed like the next step according to Christopher Bailey, chief creative officer for Burberry. “It started because I felt that, at shows and the shoots, the whole [Burberry] attitude is epitomized through the shoes, the bags, the clothes, the accessories, but then the face was the one … Read More »

Beginners Guide to Safe Cosmetics | December 14, 2009

Many people know the benefits of using safe cosmetics.  Obviously, when you use something natural, you aren’t exposing yourself to carcinogens, artificial colors, fragrances and ingredients that aren’t good for the reproductive and endocrine system, etc.

However, many natural cosmetic companies seem to teach the “all or nothing” mentality.  For most people, this is intimidating and not realistic.  To think that someone is going to throw out all existing cosmetics and start new with 100% natural products just isn’t going to happen.

The most important thing to know about cosmetics in this day and age is that there is very little regulation … Read More »

Pumpkins Aren’t Just For Carving–Fun Beauty Products For Fall! | October 31, 2009

Pumpkin pie.

Jack o’ lanterns.

“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”

Thoughts of Halloween wouldn’t be complete without images of the weird-shaped, orange gourd.  All of those holiday pumpkin pies and goodies offer so much more than just window dressing and an excuse to indulge in forbidden treats.

They hold enough anti-aging magic to dazzle even a broomstick-riding witch, especially when applied externally.

How’s that for a Halloween mask?

They’re loaded with beta-carotene, and because of their antioxidant content, including vitamin A and active enzymes, they’re often a main ingredient in peels to brighten and nourish your skin with a natural chemical exfoliation.  And thanks  to its … Read More »

Bobbi Brown Makeup Artist Works Her Magic | October 24, 2009

Makeup for me has always been a mystery.  Years ago, I went through the color draping with “Color Me Beautiful.” I’ve been to makeup artists more times than I can count on my fingers and toes combined.  I’ve heard I should stick to corals and peaches only to be told to stay away from these colors.  I’ve had neon pink lipstick, tropical fish blue eye shadow and clown cheeks and spent hundreds of dollars on cosmetics because I thought it was the right combination.  I would have to say that, like many other women in the world, choosing the … Read More »
