LG fashion week – Gaudet | March 30, 2010

Yesterday afternoon marked the preview of “Gaudet” fall/winter collection 2010. Featured in the Allstream venue in Toronto, this show was surely something to see.

In a beautiful opening, there was a tribute made to the fallen Olympic hero and athlete Nodar Kumartishvili – singers and dancers from the athletes home land were performed. They were beautiful and true to the country’s roots.

Shortly after, Gaudet’s show began – what a beautiful show it was!

Like many of the collections this fall, there was a certain vintage element that ran through the collection (immediately winning me over, as most of you now know). Not … Read More »

Designer Steals! | December 12, 2009

Most people nowadays are on the hunt for designer clothing – and not only because they are beautiful and exquisitely crafted, but they can make you look fabulous also. The issue for most is the price that comes along with these labels.

As a result, chain stores have popped up everywhere to satisfy the fashionable, while still being kind to their wallets – but the quality disappears.

So is that our only option? Heavier prices or no quality?

Thanks to the beauty of the internet, I can happily say, “no”.

Almost everyone alive today has heard of “ebay” – I myself, do not use … Read More »

Behind Oprah’s Dress: Inside the Teri Jon Showroom | December 8, 2009

Chic Galleria was recently invited into the Teri Jon showroom to get up close and personal with the latest designs, including a differently colored version of the emerald silk taffeta shawl collar dress that Oprah wears on the cover of the December issue of O magazine.

For the last quarter-century, designer and CEO Rickie Freeman has ensured that Rickie Freeman for Teri Jon (the day and evening wear collections) and Jon (the sportswear collection) has designs for women of all ages.

The “Oprah dress” is a prime example; TeriJon.com sums it up thusly: “Firstly, it is ageless, with a not-trendy, not-matronly shape that … Read More »

Men in Heels | November 27, 2009

I am all about staying on top of trends, looking for the next big thing, and letting you in on all the sweet details. So while hunting down fabulous shoes, I couldn’t help but to be a bit surprised when I discovered a seriously stylish GUY working heels better than most girls I know.  I was completely impressed, wowed and seriously envious of Victor Blanco’s (a stylist from Barcelona Spain) shoe collection.  Ladies…finally a guy knows what it is like to walk in our shoes and he does it with panache.

Name: VICTOR BLANCO

Location: BARCELONA, SPAIN

How did you get started … Read More »

From the Catwalk to the Drawing Board | November 26, 2009

It seems that once you become famous for one thing, you need to be famous for everything.  There are some celebrities who really shouldn’t quit their day job, while others may have missed their true calling the first time. Of course, there are the lucky few who are just amazing at everything. For instance, someone like Claudia Schiffer. After twenty years of walking the runway, Claudia Schiffer is finally ready to move onto another aspect of the industry.

Claudia Schiffer has decided she’s ready to create a collection under her own name. Now while most celebrities-turned designers seem to focus all … Read More »

Emerging LA Designers Show Hits & Misses | November 7, 2009

I recently attended the UP NEXT Emerging LA Designers Fashion show for Chic Galleria Magazine hosted by Kimberly Cole and EM and Co.  The collections included Ventidue (Barbara Rosin) and Queen4Ever (Tatiana McLane).  Both shows were styled by Dalit Gwenna, and the jewelry was provided by Helles Paris.

Queenie 4 Ever Spring 2010 collection was not my favorite.  The designer showed Girly Graphic Tees, Jeans, Beads. Mini Mouse, Ruffles, Eyelets and Doc Martens.  It seemed like the 15 year old designer went to Good Will, grabbed whatever she could and redid it on her sewing machine.

The Ventidue Spring 2010 collection was … Read More »

Spring Makeup: Stella McCartney | October 9, 2009

Stella McCartney is truly modern designer. Not only is she a vegan clothing designer (a feat in itself), but she has a beautiful and unique aesthetic. Her clothes are not “crunchy”, yet they are entirely wearable. This topped with incredible quality, and a luxury fashion sense, it spells MODERN!

The look for Spring 2010 for Stella is the trademark wearable whimsy. The makeup is following that aesthetic, too. A “natural” face (I always tell people, “you’d be amazed how much makeup it takes to make a woman look like she’s not wearing any”). Very little amount of color adds to the … Read More »
