Diet, Exercise, and Love: Find What’s Right For You! | January 18, 2011

We strive so hard to do the right thing, get the right job, wear the right clothes, or meet the right person that it sometimes feels like we are living someone else’s life. We are in an era where if we choose one thing, we are afraid all other options might disappear. Get married, and you’ll never be intimate with anyone ever again. Have a baby, and lose out on your dreams. Take the corporate job with the big check, and lose a little bit of your soul. Get a killer body, but give up every single thing you love … Read More »

NO Means YES! Dog’s Lupus Gone! | January 11, 2011

By Carol Giambri

Imagine bringing your furry pet in to the vet for a drippy eye when in fact you didn’t have a vet to call your own? I have always been into natural healing. For each clinic we went to for the Lupus story below I always explained my position first: no drugs, alternatives only.

In September 2009, the first clinic that addressed her eye, I walked out hearing a bad tooth and the possibility of Lupus. I remember those words rolling around in my head: “your dog may have Lupus.” I have owned dogs for over 40 years, … Read More »

5 Steps To Getting To Your Goal Weight This Year! | January 10, 2011

By Sharmen Lane

There is no better time than the first day of the year to get started on making your goal a reality.

Most people set New Year’s Resolutions on New Years Eve, and more often than not that resolution lasts for about a week. If you’re really committed to your goal, you may last a month. Just go to a gym the first couple of weeks in January, then go again in February and you will see far fewer people feeling the burn. Well, not this year! Here are a few tools and tips … Read More »

Be Open to Being Open! | January 7, 2011

There are many definitions for the term “open.” Ones I particularly like include: not fastened or sealed; not buttoned or fastened; free from obstruction; unlocked; not constipated; not clenched into a fist. It’s a word that rules us as children. We are literally open beings, living, absorbent sponges, taking in every sight, sound, smell, taste and experience. We are excitable and free, not yet bogged down by self-awareness or harsh judgment against others or ourselves.

As we grow up, we form opinions. We choose sides. We make fun of people or get made fun of. We are straight or gay. We … Read More »

Healthy Eating: Buffalo Hot Wings | January 6, 2011

Recipes for Buffalo Hot wings call for about equal mixes of melted butter and hot sauce. Most all of the recipes call for a stick of butter. That is a whopping 800 calories. Not only that, it calls for deep fat frying the wings first. This not only adds additional fat grams but seals the chicken fat inside the wings. My recipe eliminates the frying and the butter.

BUFFALO HOT WINGS
By John Wilder

INGREDIENTS

16 wings about 3 lbs
One half cup Kraft Barbecue Sauce
2 tbsp hot sauce mixed in the sauce

DIRECTIONS

Put wings on a sheet pan lined with aluminum foil. Bake at 350 … Read More »

Your Appetite Is Your Friend | December 31, 2010

By Dr. Denise Lamothe

What does it mean to befriend your appetite, and why is it important?

The basic premise is this:

Your appetite (or Chew) transmits constant streams of messages to you that frequently are not about actual hunger.  If you simply pay attention to the hunger messages and attempt to satiate yourself with food, you have missed important communications from your internal guidance system. You are likely to remain hungry and not feel satisfied.  When you tame or befriend your appetite and pay close attention to the valuable communications it brings, you begin … Read More »

By Randy Gilchrist, Psy.D.

Have you ever wondered why some people are just so much skinnier than others?
