Which Car Repair Receipts Should You Keep? | August 3, 2010

Obviously I am not an auto mechanic but I am a Professional Organizer so I feel I can give my advice! LOL!  I just recently bought a new car and sold my old, very old 1998 Grand Prix.  How sad is that, my car was older than my oldest son?

As I was trying to sell my car I pulled out all of my repair receipts for my car.  I only keep certain repair receipts.  First of all, most people will assume you are taking care of the car by changing the oil so I do not keep any those receipts.  … Read More »

Organizing the Dorm Room | July 27, 2010

One of the most important things to remember when you live in a small space or even a cubical at work is to build vertically.  Utilize your space from floor to ceiling.  If your college student is not tall enough to reach everything, invest in a step stool that collapses, so that they may utilize all of their space.

I love to use rolling carts (use with or without wheels)  to organize dorm rooms.  I have used several to stack on top of each other to make  a dresser, a make shift kitchen area to store silver ware, paper plates, pantry items and … Read More »

Organizing Bills and Paying Them On Time!! | July 2, 2010

With the economy in such shambles, now is the time to stay on top of your bills and monitor your credit closely.  So many people loose or forget to pay their bills on time and end up with late fees added to their accumulating debt.  I realize no ones likes paying bills and it seems like we get new bills in the mail everyday.  Many banks now offer free online bill paying or you can set up automatic payments from your account if you have a hard time remembering to pay your bills on time to simplify your life.  I … Read More »

Organize Your Refrigerator?!?! | June 25, 2010

With summer here it time to eat healthier and save money, so let’s get your refrigerator in order.  Just like your closet, if you don’t know what you have you tend to go out and buy more of the same thing without finishing or using what you already have at home.

All of the grocery stores make sure the newest dates are towards the front and place the older dates behind.  That is why they rotate stock constantly to keep things fresh.  You should be doing the same thing at your home.  Place salad dressing behind the current one, place new … Read More »

Safe Deposit Box and Grab-N-Go Box | June 22, 2010

I am not an expert as to what you should or should not have in your safe deposit box or your grab-n-box at home but here are some ideas or suggestions that have worked for our family. The reason I like a safety deposit box in addition to a fire proof box/grab and go box at home is that we live in tornado alley and a tornado will blow away all of your important records.

Safe Deposit Box:

Original Documents: social security cards, birth or adoption certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses, divorce decrees, military records, passports.

Property: vehicle titles, household inventory, real estate … Read More »

It’s Game Night…Do You Have All the Pieces?!?! | June 18, 2010

Our family loves Pizza and Game Night!  Nothing is worse than sitting down to a little pizza and setting up a game just to realize that you are missing a ”few” pieces to the game…kind of takes the fun out of it!

So let’s get these games under control and while we are at it get the cards and puzzles organized as well.

If you have a huge storage closet for games, you are so lucky!!  All I would say to you is categorize your games by age group, such as pre-school, teen or adult games.  Make sure you keep adult games … Read More »

Best Cleaning Tips or Tricks Anyone? | June 15, 2010

I know we all have simple cleaning tips to help us save time or money.  I thought instead of waiting until the official time of spring cleaning we could get a jump start and give each other ideas before March is here and it is officially spring cleaning.

I have three tips I like to use at my house.  The first one is going to seem really weird but it works!  If your dishwasher has hard water stains, use one to two packets of Kool-Aid Lemonade Flavor in your dishwasher.  Empty the packets into the soap dispenser and run the dishwasher … Read More »

Keeping Your Car Organized | June 8, 2010

To keep your car from having trash all over it, you could try keeping a grocery bag in the passenger side of the door to use to pick up the extra trash.  I keep a sticky note pad and pen in my drivers side door to write down things I need to pick up or notes about things I don’t want to forget and attach it to my dashboard to remind myself.

In my glove box I keep a Ziploc bag of band-aids, Neosporin and antiseptic foam wash for any cuts or spills we may have along the way.  I also … Read More »

Organizing the Garage Part 2 | May 24, 2010

I am sure several of you have driven through neighborhoods and seen the garage door open and wondered to yourself, what in the world is all in there?  This is a scary statement but oh so very true.

“The U.S. Department of Energy reports that 25-percent of people with two-car garages don’t have room to park any cars inside, and 32-percent only have room for one vehicle.”

Now that we have “cleared the clutter” and did some spring cleaning in our home let’s get our garage declutterd.  Even if you don’t purchase an expensive custom garage storage system and we don’t have … Read More »

Keeping Your Email Under Control | May 20, 2010

Email can be very over whelming and unless you stay on top of it before you know it, you have 1000 emails in your inbox!  To try and stay on top of your email I have a few suggestions.

I like to use a couple of email addresses to help me eliminate the number of emails I receive at one time.  I use one for my business, one for purchasing items on the internet and another for personal use for friends, family, school, church and sports. My purchase emails tends to get most of the junk emails, so I check that … Read More »

Have you ever been to a movie and wished you had known more about it before you paid $30 on tickets or more?  With money being tight, you want to make sure you are not wasting your time or money on a bad movie.  My friends got me hooked on the website www.dove.org .

This website is non-profit organization and it is geared toward helping families make a good choices about movies.  It reviews information about the movie, whether it is approved for families, language, nudity, violence and drugs.  I can’t tell you how many times I thought I had a … Read More »
