Are you feeling anxious at work? Having bad luck with your love life? Are your kids driving you crazy? Well, you’ve got stress my friend. You’re probably starting to lose your hair, gaining weight, or breaking out like you’re 16 again. Stress is the ultimate beauty buster. When you feel tense, you’re inviting toxins to wreak havoc on your body. Your breathing gets quick and shallow, which keeps those toxins inside, instead of releasing them. Your anxiety raises the levels of the stress hormone cortisol in your body, which can potentially damage blood vessels, cause strain on circulation, and cut delivery … Read More »

To Stress or Not To Stress…That is the Question | January 4, 2011

To Stress or Not To Stress…That is the Question.
Your choice makes all the difference in the outcome.
Working with people who are angry, difficult and “acting out their pain” in life is probably one of the most amazing opportunities for you to practice the art of “taking nothing any human being says or does personally”. Think about it, what would your life look like if you were able to remain connected to a place of safety within while being surrounded by a bunch of “sharks” in the work place? How … Read More »
Let Go Of The Past, Release Your Inner Happiness | October 26, 2010
Often times, I find myself looking back into my past relationships to reflect on what went wrong just for the sake of understanding what to avoid in the future. Lots of times, relationships end for reasons that can easily be avoided, and the friendships that could’ve remained when the smoke cleared have been destroyed. It’s good to reflect on the things that made one such a great guy, and one such a bad fit.
The pattern I came across while rummaging through my past relationship memory bank was that I never let go when I should’ve. Things would begin to be … Read More »
Resolute Worrier Project Part III | February 24, 2010
Since my last column, I’ve had the chance to test my white-coat worry stamina first-hand. I made an appointment for an MRI and didn’t get clammy hands while scheduling the appointment. And I’ve only made a handful of comments to my husband about the possibility of something imploding while I’m in the machine, which seems to happen with regularity on the TV show House. I’ve decided it’s best to stop watching that program.
I was also able to answer the safety questions the nurse asked me on the phone without adding in any caveats. Okay, you’re right. I added in one. … Read More »
Resolute Worrier Project Part II | February 8, 2010
Since last week I think I’ve worried less. Really. Or at least I’ve thought more about worrying and what it isn’t doing for me. I ask my husband if I seem a bit less angst-ridden than normal. His response is a noncommittal “maybe.” To me that’s progress because he’s usually the one who is much more cognizant of my worrying than I am. Why is that?
So I feel ready to tackle this week’s assignment – worrying before a doctor’s appointment. I don’t mean right before. From the moment I schedule an annual exam, check up, or physical, I think about … Read More »
Resolute Worrier Project Part I | January 28, 2010
As I write this, I’m not worried about anything. Well, that’s not absolutely true. I’m slightly worried about my mother’s upcoming doctor appointment. Along those lines, I’m concerned the health care bill will never pass. In addition, my nine-and-a-half year old cat has taken to meowing whenever my husband leaves the condo. I wonder why she has growing separation anxiety.
Moving right along…
I’m very fortunate that Dr. Elizabeth Lombardo, Ph.D., M.S., P.T psychologist, physical therapist, and author of “A Happy You: Your Ultimate Prescription for Happiness” has agreed to coach me through my worry project. As previously mentioned, I’m a forward … Read More »

by Roberta Lee M.D.,

Each New Year, we doctors hear our patients’ wistful declarations of resolve to change their health. As I listen I silently hope that this year take hold and succeed. But I also might have different priorities than you do for yourself. Here are my top health wishes for all my patients . . . see if you think that adopting some or all of these might help you reach your own resolutions, too:
Make health goals practical. Everybody loves to make lofty goals but such high-flying targets make it harder to achieve … Read More »
