Dreaming of Marc Jacobs | March 5, 2010

Marc Jacobs recently showed his Fall/Winter 2010 collection at New York fashion week. The entire collection was absolutely stunning. MJ, who is normally known for the multitude of layers and colours in his collection – displayed a more whimsical and softer side.

His pieces were a multitude of neutrals in varying shades of grey, camel, tan, black, navys and creams. Instead of the collection being one that defines “trends” for the season – the collection was amazingly filled with more classic pieces wrapped up in the most beautiful fur coats and cardigans.

While the silhouettes may have been more classic, the materials … Read More »

Wartime Glamour | February 10, 2010

I love runway shows – they are like art in motion for me. When I watch them, it’s like I’ve been sucked into another world for just a moment. The lights, the music, and the beautiful garments put me in awe – and emotional reactions to some of the shows have taken place.

I’ve been creeping WWD lately and have been sneaking a peak at some of the designers pre-fall 2010 collections. I must say – I have been drooling appropriately. However, one I’m particularly taken with is the Christian Dior collection.

John Galliano is a designer that can do … Read More »

How Strong Are Your Shoulders? | January 27, 2010

It’s a flashback to the 1980’s, powersuits with the reintroduction of strong shoulders. Although this seasons interpretation of strong shoulders is more sophisticated and dramatic ,it still conveys the message of strength and femininity.

The best way to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe is to choose a strong shouldered look in a neutral colour. Stick with black, white, gray or even beige, but don’t try to wear a strong shoulder with an even stronger colour like blue, red or green.

It is the perfect trend for a more formal event or a day at the office.  If … Read More »

Designer Steals! | December 12, 2009

Most people nowadays are on the hunt for designer clothing – and not only because they are beautiful and exquisitely crafted, but they can make you look fabulous also. The issue for most is the price that comes along with these labels.

As a result, chain stores have popped up everywhere to satisfy the fashionable, while still being kind to their wallets – but the quality disappears.

So is that our only option? Heavier prices or no quality?

Thanks to the beauty of the internet, I can happily say, “no”.

Almost everyone alive today has heard of “ebay” – I myself, do not use … Read More »

Not Animal Tested? | December 10, 2009

For years now, there have been countless protests to scientists testing products for humans on animals. I mean after all – who on earth would want to harm some of the sweetest creatures?

Shoppers have become more savvy as the years go by, and are constantly on the hunt for products that haven’t been tested on animals. Many manufacturers have become aware of this trend – which is a fabulous thing!

But how smart are we as consumers?

The most troublesome fact is that manufacturers get away with A LOT just by playing with words in their campaigns or placing certain labels on … Read More »

Yoga Jeans | November 14, 2009

Jeans are so versatile. You can dress them up or down and use them for multiple occasions, styles, and looks. I love jeans – I might almost have a weakness for them. Every time I run into a store, I swear they are calling my name to try them on. I have numerous different kinds in my closet.

Denim however, can be one of the biggest gripes that women have to deal with. There are so many styles that play tricks with our legs, bums, thighs and muffin tops that it’s no wonder so many women ended frustrated trying to find … Read More »

Scarves That Make You Drool | November 1, 2009

I must tell you, there is one trend that continues to stay strong in fashion that I cannot get enough of – scarves. I love them. Trust me when I say, my closet is bursting with them.

They are amazing because they can change the entire look of any outfit in seconds. They are a simple way to take even the most glamorous of outfits and instantly make them look more urban and casual.

Often when working with clients, I suggest that they purchase a few different scarves. Why? Because they are a great way to add a splash of colour to … Read More »

Thigh High Obsession | October 11, 2009

This fall, the 80’s era ran ramped on the runway – with a definite rock twist. Stunning.

Yet, with the mere mention of the 80’s many women immediately become hesitant with reminiscent memories of shoulder pads, big hair, and heavy makeup – all working together for the horrid “glamor shots” that haunt many to date.

So how do we incorporate the 80’s trend without ending up with photos that will need a good hiding place? I recommend incorporating the era into an outfit with a few pieces at a time.

Right now, I am obsessing over thigh high boots. They instantly remind me … Read More »

Men’s Fall Trend: Military Inspired Jackets | August 31, 2009

D&G Men’s Fall 2009 Collection. Photos Courtesy of men.style.com

No matter our feelings about the war, we all can agree to support our troops. And whereas these fall looks aren’t exactly dress blues, D&G does play homage with these military-inspired looks in their fall collection.

Although the military look promises to be a trend this fall, that doesn’t mean you should dig out your old camouflage fatigues — or buy anything in that traditional army green. Shop for a jacket that goes well with both denim jeans as well as a pair of pants — and that can easily go from … Read More »
