Pamper Yourself With The Science of Bliss

Blissology ("The Science of Bliss") is a small family-run bath and beauty company in Poncha Springs, Colorado. Co-owners Pamela Smith and Shannon Daniels (mother and daughter, respectively) make soaps, lotions, bath salts, shaving lotions, footsie bars, and lip balms from high- quality ingredients in a variety of fragrances.

"In 1997, I started experimenting with making soap," Pam explains. "I wanted to know how my grandparents did it. Then I made it better. Soon I had more soap than I could use herself, so I started sharing it with friends and family. Everyone else loved it so much that my hobby then turned into a business called Mountain Homestead Soaps. Soon I was making other products too."

"Unfortunately, a few years later, my two youngest daughters and I were in a terrible car accident. Rehabilitation was long and hard, and naturally there were many other things to worry about besides my soaps. When I could walk again and started to feel better, people started asking me for my products again. They begged, bribed, and pleaded, but emotionally, I wasn't ready."

"Finally, in 2007, my oldest daughter Shannon gave me the final push. She cleaned out the old soap room, brushed away the cobwebs, and uncovered all of my old recipes. When she was done, she (with the help of her dad, my husband), told me they were going to make soap."

Pam taught her daughter how to make the bath products and they decided to go into business again. Mountain Homestead Soaps was renamed Blissology by Pam's husband to better reflect her life and goals.

"Our products are specifically aimed to help people pamper themselves every day: handmade, high-quality soaps, lotions, scrubs, and massage products that don't cost a lot of money, last a long time, and make you feel better."

"Our Moon Cream is definitely a best-seller," adds Pam. "It is a nighttime facial cream, but some customers have told us that they use it as a daytime moisturizer as well because it's not as greasy as others. It absorbs quickly into skin and is so silky and smooth-you can feel a huge difference after the very first time you try it."

"Among our more unique items are our Massage Oil Candles made with soy wax, cocoa butter, and shea butter. They melt at about 102 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the perfect temperature for a warm massage and can be poured directly from the tin. They can also be used as a cuticle treatment or for dry areas like elbows. Plus they smell wonderful!"

"Ultimate Muscle Therapy Balm is one of our newer items and is quickly becoming really popular! Olive oil infused with Arnica flowers and Comfrey Root plus beeswax, menthol crystals, shea butter, and a blend of essential oils combine in a hard lotion stick so you can get relief from sore, tired muscles without getting your hands messy."
