Mosaic Art Combines Jewelry And China

ChicGalleria.jpgMosaic art is Faro Nail's favorite past time. If you need to find her, it's probably best if you look in the garage first. Most likely she's at her bench speed tiling, or cutting plates, or just staring at her projects to gain inspiration.

One of my earliest memories as a young blossoming girl was finding my grandmothers stash of vintage clothes and jewelry. I was in the 8th grade; a friend from school came with me for a visit to my grandmother's house. We were snooping around and discovered her poodle skirts, sheer hand stitched blouses with rhinestone buttons and vintage jewelry, cluster bead and rhinestone earrings, 2-3-5 strand necklaces, OMGosh- we were in heaven and spent the next several months taking turns wearing our luxurious finds (grandma was kind enough to give them to me) and we felt F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S! I believe my love affair with vintage, especially vintage costume jewelry, was born on that lucky hunting day.

My love for sparkly jewels continues to this day and is reflected in my line of hair accessories, almost all are made using vintage costume jewelry. If you take a peek at my mosaic home decor, you will see that I incorporate a lot of broken vintage jewelry in my mosaic art as well. The jewelry compliments the vintage china tiles (that I cut by hand) perfectly!

My inspiration is always taken from the jewelry. I never really have a set idea in mind, I just start pulling pieces together and it moves forward from there. In my mosaic art the jewelry pieces are always the first to be laid, the rest of the china mosaic simply flows from there.

Right now I seem to be pleasing brides. They enjoy my bridal pieces made using vintage earrings with white faux pearls, rhinestones and sparkling aurora borealis crystals. They are a hit!

I especially love the gotta-have-it-in-two-weeks order, and, getting it to them On Time. I delight in being a small part of their special day.

Faro has plans to move to the Pacific Northwest with my family in about 5 years, Portland Oregon is their destination. I'm sure I'll be making sparkly goodies then too.
