Anna Bassham is the creator of Shoe Smitten, writes articles that display the latest fashions, combined with her personal taste. She informs her readers of the latest news in the shoe fashion industry. “With no professional experience in fashion, I am learning right along with my readers,” says Anna.
“I just graduated from The University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, so I have a background in writing. My interest in fashion started a little over a year ago, when I came to the realization that my wardrobe centered around my shoes. I had always had a passion for shoes, I just didn’t know it. Most of the shoes I own are what I call “attitude heels”, or high heels with unique features that make them stand out in an ensemble. I own many different brands of shoes, from Naughty Monkey to Via Spiga to Adidas. I started Shoe Smitten blog in March 2008, to express my interest in shoe fashion.”
“I am also Community Manager at ShoeHunting.com, a new site where shoe lovers can discover, create, share, and talk about shoes by creating collections with the click of a button. I love using this site to display shoes I want, shoes I hate, and even get other members’ opinions on the shoes I save. It’s a free site, and it’s definitely worth checking out.”
“In my free time (when I’m not blogging) I like to shop, cook, and travel. A few of my favorite stores to shop for shoes include TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Endless.com. I subscribe to InStyle Magazine, WSAToday magazine, and many fashion blogs that all help me stay on top of things, even while living in Kansas (a good distance from the fashion hubs). I also enjoy talking to shoe designers, such as David Froment and Mark Schwartz, because they have the design talent and industry knowledge that I lack.
“I do own an online store named Shoe Smitten Boutique, where I sell accessories and gifts for shoe lovers. My best selling item is the “Shoe Smitten” Wine Glass, made by Kim of Eye Kandy Glasses ($17.95). It’s a fun wine glass to pull out at a dinner party to show off your fashion sense. This glass is an ode to those who are smitten with designer shoes. The glass has different shoes and even a few cute purses painted on it. It say’s “Shoe Smitten” in swirly writing and popular shoe designer names are written amongst the shoes.”
Anna is hoping to land a job in fashion advertising and PR, and she definitely wants to take a fashion design course or two. “I plan on maintaining ShoeSmitten.com, no matter where my career takes me,” concludes Anna.
