Applying eye makeup becomes a bit tricky when you’re left with fairy dust everywhere. It seems as though face makeup and eye makeup are always a trade off - when one looks good, the other is ruined. But it doesn’t have to be this way! Here’s the secret to keeping eye makeup on your eyes and away from your contour and highlighting in two easy steps.
Step 1: Start with a Clean, Moisturized Face
No matter how oily you think your skin is, moisturizer is necessary to keep your skin healthy and your pores clean. If you’re still hesitant to believe me, buy oil-free moisturizer and only apply a small amount.
Use primer! I use Laura Mercier’s foundation primer and I love it. You can choose to apply eye shadow first or start with your foundation and concealer. The order doesn’t matter, so just do what you’re comfortable and used to!
Step 2: Apply Finishing Powder Under Eyes
Finishing powder is a must-have under your eyes before you put on eyeshadow. It will catch all the fallout and keep it from ruining your concealer and foundation, especially if you chose to apply that first. After you’re done with your eye makeup, simply brush away the finishing powder and the fallen shadow will come along with it without ruining any of your makeup. Again, Laura Mercier has a great product and so does Bare Minerals.
The result - Clean and beautiful eye makeup!
It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’ll leave you looking better than ever. You won’t have to go back and “clean up,” or risk ruining any of your foundation, and you’ll be done quicker. It’s a great strategy, especially if you’re in a hurry!
