Yoga is the ideal way to relax, loosen up, and detox your body of any negative or stressful influences. Good yoga practice will stretch your body in a way that keeps your circulatory, digestive, and lymphatic systems functioning properly. Not only do the following yoga poses leave you feeling happy and refreshed, they also aid in removing waste products from your body.
Yoga Pose #1
Downward Facing Dog
INSTRUCTIONS: Start on your hands and knees. Align your hands under your shoulders and your hips above your knees. Point your fingers towards the front of your mat and stretch your elbows. Exhale, curl your toes, and lift up your pelvis to the ceiling as you straighten your knees, but do not lock them. Your body should be in an “A” shape. Keep your body extended and pull your hips and thighs back to stretch yourself out.
DETOX BENEFITS: Improves digestion, relieves headaches, back pain, fatigue, and insomnia.
Yoga Pose #2
Spinal Twist
Lay down. Shift your hips to the right and bring your left hand to the outside of your right knee. Exhale and remain here for a few deep breaths as you gradually use your left elbow pressing into your right knee to twist your hips further right. Look behind you or over your right shoulder, but don’t stress this if it hurts your neck. Do the same on the left side of your body.
DETOX BENEFITS: Massages abdominal organs, including the kidneys and liver.
Yoga Pose #3
Deep Breathing
INSTRUCTIONS:
Inhaling
As you take a deep breath in, push your stomach forward. Then, push your ribs sideways while still inhaling, this will cause your stomach to contract a little. Lastly, raise your collarbone and chest up. While this is described in parts, it should not be jerky. It should be one, gentle and relaxing motion.
Exhaling
Let your chest, collarbone, and ribs relax, which in turn lets you release air naturally. Then, when you seem to have exhaled completely, push your stomach in. This will release any remaining air in your lungs. Again, this is described in separate motions but should be a smooth cycle.
DETOX BENEFITS: Deep breathing, otherwise known as “pranayama,” can really improve your level of energy throughout the day, which allows the body to detox with ease. Thirty minutes of pranayama will leave you feeling relaxed and your bowels working properly.
