In the beauty world, skin care is one area where ingredient innovations are constantly changing and constantly sought after. Sometimes it can be hard to keep up with every trend out there. I often find myself wondering if they really work. I don’t put just anything on my skin and I advise you not to either. Always do your research and keep in mind that everyone’s skin is different. What works for your friend might send you into a breakout if you don’t do your homework and get familiar with your skin type. That being said, among the ever changing and evolving skin care products and ingredients is Bamboo Charcoal. This is an ingredient combo that all skin types can enjoy. Bamboo Charcoal has been making beauty headlines for the past month, and I’m here to tell you why!
What is it?
To fully understand why bamboo charcoal is becoming a huge beauty craze with skin care we must first understand the two ingredients individually. Bamboo extract helps prevent wrinkles and keep skin firm. This is because bamboo is a natural source of silica, which produces collagen. Collagen is what is in the connective tissue that provides skin with elasticity! You can find silica in most Skin, Hair, and Nail pills as well. Bamboo sap works deep in the skins layers to help attract and retain moisture. Activated charcoal is a natural detoxify-er. When applied to the skin it will draw bacteria, poison, chemicals, dirt and more from clogged pores. When washed away your skin will be left seriously CLEAN. The best part is that bamboo charcoal isn’t harmful or to harsh on the skin, like a toner or exfoliate can be when used in excess.
Why does it work?
Every skin type needs a detox. The air around us is filled with bacteria, poisons, chemicals, and dirt. As well as, our hands, our phones, our pillowcases, etc. that come in contact with our face on a daily basis. Dirt, chemicals, etc. are not skin type specific! Which is why we all can benefit from a charcoal detox. Bamboo on the other hand does nothing but regenerate and renew the skin. Newsflash: everyone’s skin is susceptible to aging! We all can use bamboo as a preventative measure or a restorative measure. When you combine the bamboo and charcoal together you end up with a seriously kick-butt combo.
Where can I find it?
While you can find many skin care products that include bamboo and many that include charcoal, it is slightly more difficult to find the combo of the two. I have included the best products available that include both as well as where you can purchase them. Check it out!

Deciding to switch to charcoal is a very good idea. It has been shown to drastically improve skin in various types of people. This includes oily/acne prone skin, blackheads, age-related spots, blemishes, and wrinkles and it may even help improve rosacea and spider veins. Also, if you suffer from dry skin, it will not make the condition worse, providing the manufacturer doesn’t use other chemicals or additives that contribute to such.

Most facial wash products contain a lot of chemical ingredients that can harm the skin and even the overall health. However, activated charcoal isn’t anything chemical, as it was made from carbonaceous sources. There is little to no chance of it harming your skin, so even if you feel it doesn’t work for you, it definitely won’t worsen the state of your skin.
