Let’s face it; we are rough on our skin and hair. We are constantly lathering with oils, layering makeup, and applying heat to feel beautiful. Sometimes what could make us feel our best is to stop all of that and take a hiatus from the beauty regimen.
A hiatus is just a pause in our normal routine, and in this case, our beauty routine. A beauty hiatus not only lets your face and hair recover, it can also give you an extra hour or two in your day. This hiatus is strictly for as long as you need it. Make it a week long while at the beach, or a short weekend while in your favorite pajamas. Here are a few ways to skip the beauty routine:
Let your skin breathe and cut half the time off of your face application by skipping the makeup all together. Continue to wash your face at night and in the morning to get rid of that excess oil and dirt. After washing, apply an eye cream and face moisturizer with sunscreen for daytime and night crème before going to bed. Add a little tinted lip balm with an SPF, such as Sugar Rose’ by Fresh, to keep your lips looking silky, and you are good to go. If you must use a little coverage, dab on a little concealer under your eyes and on any blemishes you may have. My favorite concealer to use is Maybelline’s Master Conceal by FaceStudio. It has awesome coverage and is also very inexpensive. Drink lots of water throughout the day to give you a healthy glow without the bronzer.
The most dreaded part of my day is blow drying my hair. Not only is it a terrible duty for a girl with long hair, it completely dries it out. The best way to let your hair recover is to skip the blow dryer and let it air dry. Remove all heat and skip the straighteners and curling irons as well. If you are worried about battling the possible frizz that comes with air drying, use a mousse or salt spray to give your hair some texture and a low maintenance style. My favorite salt spray to use is Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray. It works great for wet or dry hair and it smells amazing!
A beauty hiatus will keep your skin feeling fresh and your hair feeling soft. Think of it as a mini-vacation (the beach is optional). Not only will you feel better, you will look better too. Eventually we all feel like we have to wear makeup and fix our hair, whether for a party, an interview, or a date, but taking a mini break will make us look even better when we welcome the beauty products back into our daily regimen. Your skin and hair will thank you!
