Do you constantly find yourself rushing out the door in the morning without enough time to prepare yourself a nice breakfast? It is hard to convince yourself to wake up thirty minutes earlier than you’d necessarily have to if you didn’t have breakfast. So naturally, people are inclined to press the snooze button one more time and skip breakfast in exchange for some extra rest. But breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Instead of skipping it altogether, try one of these 5 quick breakfasts that will allow you to sleep a little longer yet still have enough energy to start the day!
1. Avocado Toast
Everyone’s recent obsession is avocado toast - and it makes total sense why. Delicious and easy to make, it is the perfect quick breakfast option. Simply toast a couple of pieces of whole-wheat bread and spread as much avocado onto it as you need (I would recommend about half an avocado per piece). Add salt and pepper to taste. Consider sprinkling some feta cheese on top or adding a poached egg to your avo toast for an enhanced variation. There are plenty of ways to spice up your toast, none of which you can go wrong with.
2. Overnight Oatmeal
Instant Oatmeal may be convenient, but the preservatives added to them make the negatives outweigh the positives. Instead, opt for overnight oatmeal! All you need to do is soak the oats in a liquid of your choice (milk or water) and refrigerate over night. Then in the morning, you’re ready to go. Obviously you can add any toppings that you would like: fruit, seeds, nuts or nut butters - so many choices indeed.
3. Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt is a healthy, simple, and delicious breakfast. To make it less plain, cut up some fresh fruit like a peach or strawberries and add it to your bowl of yogurt. You can even throw in some granola and top with honey for an Instagram worthy breakfast that takes less than five minutes to make. Plus, greek yogurt is full of calcium, iodine and probiotics!
4. Smoothies
If you have a blender in your home or apartment, smoothies are a great go-to quick breakfast that are still full of nutrients. Many recipes call for only a few ingredients and little prep time; and you can easily add in protein or whey powder to boost!
5. Quinoa Fruit Salad
Fruit salad is one of my favorite snacks, and by adding a superfood like quinoa to it, there are so many health benefits. Quinoa is packed with protein, fiber, and magnesium among other things. They are the perfect energy food for a busy day. Simple prepare the quinoa the night before, and follow this recipe to make a delicious and quick breakfast the next morning!
So for nights you don’t get enough sleep and need that extra few minutes in bed, try one of these delicious breakfasts to start your day off right.
