Casual Friday is a tradition in the workplace that is everyone enjoys. Four days of suits and heels is enough of a reason to yell TGIF. But just how casual is too casual? The answer depends on your specific work environment, but there are a few rules that are staples in every workplace.
Tops
When choosing a top, make sure it is an appropriate length that bares no cleavage or stomach. Just like sleeveless tops are not appropriate on normal business days, they are still not appropriate on casual Fridays. Pair your sleeveless top with a cardigan for a casual chic look. Blouses are still great for even casual days as well as cotton and linen fabrics. Some businesses allow t-shirts and have one with their logo, but make sure the content on your shirt is appropriate. Stay away from shirts that have inappropriate advertisements or quotes on them.
Pants
Denim may be a staple in the casual Friday’s wardrobe, but be careful about the jeans you choose to wear. Holes and rips should not be worn. Opt for dark denim that still has a nice look and a dressier feel.
Shoes
If you still want to dress up your casual look, pair your outfit with a cute pair of heels or nice ballet flats. While some workplaces may allow sandals on casual days, flip flops are never a good choice. If choosing to wear sandals, make sure they do not look like beach wear. Tennis shoes are also iffy in the workplace. Go for a clean, cute sneaker that does not look like you are heading to the gym.
Casual Friday should be taken advantage of but make sure you still look workplace ready and appropriate. If you are still unsure about what you can wear, review your company’s dress code rules. Have fun with your casual outfit and pick pieces that are chic and comfortable for your work day
